Re: Plated Barrels

Could I just say TTW only use Aptec for their ceramic plating. On the face of it TTW seem more expensive but the reality is they are cheaper than going direct to Aptec. Anyone that does nicasil plating will quote a lower price, however IMO ceramic plating is better than nicasil and Aptec thru TTW pr...

Re: Shrinking a 300 to a 250

A bit more progress New crank in the cases. some lovely 3 bond and it's all torqued up nicely. Balance shaft with the most ridiculous alignment marks is in. Gearbox slotted in and all the gears select. Stator and flywheel on and some lovely new carb rubbers. Extra clips and washers back on ready for...

Re: Plated Barrels

Wossner piston kits £200
Replate per barrel about £150

£500 for a new top end. £400 for a set of BDK Kips valves and £500 for a crank rebuild... It isn't cheap but you have a motor good for 10,000+ road miles

Re: Plated Barrels

Sean at TTW deals with ceramic coating from aptec. You can go direct, however TTW pass on some of the trade discount so it's actually cheaper thru TTW. What you do need is to send barrels & pistons. Check if there are any cracks and they can be welded before the replate. However if you don't ask for...

Re: Shrinking a 300 to a 250

Pics are on Flikr https://www.flickr.com/photos/156864217@N06/albums I read the history of this bike before I bought it. For a road bike I'd prefer to not have the high maintenance the 300 requires. If I was racing I would probably go the 300 route As for selling the 300 kit Jarno has had 1st dibs s...

Re: Shrinking a 300 to a 250

And another 2 hours and it's in bits Having never taken a KR1s apart before it was pretty straight forward. As usual the engine had been put together with a couple of badly chewed up screws here and there, a few were finger tight and others took a bit of heat to remove them. The 300 bores and piston...

Re: Wanted barrels.

Get the other one machined to the same height and use different thickness gaskets to restore to the proper dimensions, either thicker head or thicker base gaskets. Std height is 90.60mm (well mine are)

Re: Wanted barrels.

I sent a set of old barrels along with some new Wossner pistons to Sean at TheTuningWorks for a replate. Came back like new with barrels matched to piston with perfect tolerance/clearance. Good for another 10,000 miles

Re: Any idea who this is

TBH £150 for an engine rebuild + parts. I mean how many bolts does that involve. 6- 8 weeks turnaround ? Cheaper if you only want a top end rebuild, more expensive if you want a faster turnaround. This is a 2 cylinder 2 stroke FFS. They also advertise to rebuild lots of 2 stroke engines for £150 eve...
