Re: Engine Mods.....what works and what doesn't

Nice work bozbridge .....great to have real world experience to draw on. Have you tried no filter/no lid? I also remember tightening up the squish too far back in the day and getting some contact with the head. We reprofiled the shape with the wiseco pistons anyway so managed more compression withou...

Engine Mods.....what works and what doesn't

This is what I mostly look for when trolling the site so thought it might as well be an area of discussion so we can summarise for newbies or people like me who may have missed something over the years. I have rebuilt and raced almost all the 250s (except a TZR) at some point in the last 30 yrs and ...

Re: back together

Be very interested to read a ride report on not only your engine and pipe mods but the Wilbers rear shock. Seems to be very limited choice for after market replacements and was thinking of Wilbers or perhaps Maxton if they still had the capability.

Re: Engine build....

If you put the barrels on first and torque them down
, when you go to fit the head the power valves can bind and lock up. This is because the barrels have too much play and can be twisted.

Re: This might take a while!!!

Did I spot KR1 KIPS valve in a KR1S barrel? From memory the holes in the valves should match the tunnel outer....not sure but thought it worth mentioning before it's all buttoned up.

Re: Motor temp.

Whats the main jet?

If idling around seems normal and opening up the throttle causes the high temperatures it may be its jetted too lean.

Re: 'fingers KR1-S C2 tinkering with a mostly stock bike

I agree about less than .8 on the squish being a problem. If you leave it that way it might pay to check for contact between piston and head fairly soon after the rebuild. I'm still not sure what constitutes piston life these days except that early pistons used to lose their pins so this was the lim...
