Thanks for the reply Mell---liked the spec of PJME but they don't take on bottom end engine rebuilds SINCE 2012 and I didn`t want to trust my "expertise " to this engine dismantle and rebuild but I like the exacting tolerances of their crank rebuilding so may consider sending them my spare NOS crank...

Thanks for the reply Beezer and I`m still trying to figure out, if the crank seals are gone then why does it start first prod every time and go like s--t off a shovel? if the crank seals have hardened(not been on the road for 20 years remember)or are not sealing how is it getting crankcase compressi...

ok try this for good business sense--an ebay supplier with a LARGE star rating for selling aftermarket ignition coils could not give me the primary and secondary readings(done statically)of an ignition coil because the did not even possess a basic Multitester!! yes it was a bit long and drawn out but at my age you do tend to drivel on a bit prob something to do with swallowing all that 2 stroke smoke !!
hope i`m back on it before spring as well--got 3 other running bikes languishing in the garage.

Yes Jarno-- i thought that might be the case(no pun intended!!)i`ve just found a picture of a seal and i can see that it has a raised profile on the outer seal surface obviously there to lock the seals in place under compression. hi beezer-thanks for the reply--is the cog an interference fit? or is it on a keyway? AND--

did changing the outer seals sort the problem(i`m assuming it was smoking badly?) or not?
