KR250 Stripes

Post by Tassyrider » Fri Jan 03, 2014 11:45 am

Hi all. This is my first post so bear with me. I am restoring a 1984 Green Tandem Twin. Its all going well so far although much too slowly for my liking. I have it going nicely and have welded up the plastics. Paint colour is no problem but I cannot find anybody who makes a set of stripes.
Tim at KR250.org doesn't know of any.
Various people have made suggestions on here:
MotoGraphix have decals but no stripes.
graphicdetail10 don't do them at all.
The Image Works have decals but no stripes.

Does anybody know of a company that can make a set of stripes?
Your experience will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Pics are compulsory by the way, haha! :D

Don't know of any stripe kits for the KR250A but any decent paint shop should be able to do the job...plus they won't peel off!

He's hopeless isn't he, you'd think he'd have got stuff like this all sorted by now... #-o

Trouble is, the decals/stripes don't have a Kawasaki partnumber, you can only buy the finished panels etc.

Graham at ImageWorks did a great job on bespoke decals for a couple of my other bikes. They didn't have what I needed on the shelf, so they made them to suit my requirements. They'd need a pattern to work from though. Maybe you could create a paper template against the bike and then scan it with the dimensions written on ? If you also included a photo of a bit of an existing stripe, they could match the colours too.

I needed to add a black stripe to my 3MA-SP seatcowl and bought a flat sheet of vinyl and played around with it, cutting it until it looked right in 3D. Quite satisfying, though obviously a lot more work for multiple colours.

Good luck !

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I could possibly paint them on by masking and spraying as you suggest but it would take ages and I suspect the boundary between the red and black stripe might end up a bit rough.

I might take a tank around to the local (Tasmania, Australia) sign-writer and see what he thinks. It would cost too much for him to do it from scratch but I might be able to make the templates as you suggest by rapping thin cardboard over the original. I have access to drafting software so I will ask what formats he works with.

I am hoping somebody might have already done this and can either forward the files or have a set made and send them to me.

Thanks for the thoughts on going silver. For what it is worth I reckon the silver is nicer looking followed by the red and black.
However, If I get it done it will probably be the only nice KR250 Tandem in the state and maybe one of only a couple in Australia.
That makes it pretty special and much more identifiable if green.
Probably the same reason why most people "go green".
Besides all that I have already painted some of it.

Please give up on the silver paint. I knocked off work early and painted some white on the main fairing.
Please tell me who can make some stripes for me. :)

Thanks for your interest. I can't believe 3 people so far even give a damn about my problem.

Does yours have any stripes that you could copy?
(low tack masking tape used as a tracing paper, then transfered onto paper/card to take to your local bodywork shop , along with photos to get a colour match).
If not someone may do a tracing of theirs for you.

Thanks for the tracing idea. Its old fashioned but may be a way to go. Even if I decide to create a computer file to take to the signwriter, tracing may be a way to get a start.

Thanks
