How many clutch plates?

Post by StrokerBoy »

Someone emailed me asking me to explain the page in the workshop manual that says how to rebuild the clutch.

It says to fit the first 6 friction plates with the tangs aligned, then the last one with the tangs in the alternative slot. There's a photo showing a clutch built up like that.

But he only has 6 friction plates in total, which is correct according to the parts book. My manuals and partsbooks show the same discrepancy.

Any ideas?

Anything like the AR125 (which is similar for Mk2. ..) you have 6 friction plates and 5 plates .. you fit 5 friction plates and metal plates into the clutch basket (tangs aligned) and the 6th friction plate into the slots in the wall of the clutch basket (alternative slot)

Hope that helps
If it takes more than 2strokes then your just playing at it..

Yeah, that's what I guessed. Ta. They also changed the clutch basket after the first year too.
