Plans for 2018 ?

Post by StrokerBoy »

On Christmas Eve I had a shuffle round of the bikes in the garage, so I could move my red/black KR to the front. It's not run in 6 years and has never been on the road (legally) since I bought it. Time to put that right. It should fire up with a bit of effort, then I need to sort the front brakes and go through it before attempting an MOT. In the meantime, the green one fired up fairly easily and annoyed the neighbour's dog.

What's everyone else got planned for the new year ?

It's still 2017 and it's running already ! Totally neglected for 6 years and all it took was a splash of fresh fuel and less than a dozen kicks. Ignore the two fuel leaks for now...

I lost the storage for my KR1 last week, so I need to sort that out as a priority, as a temporary measure(which may last 6-12 months!...) , its now residing at another friends storage place, with some very nice machinery to keep it company.

Earlier in the month I dropped off 2 of my LC engine cases to AJS Aquablasting, 1 is(was) my current engine and the other, my original (matching numbers) engine which needs a chain case repair and aqua blasting. Im having the YPVS gearshaft bush fitted into both cases and also having the LH crankcase cover bushed so the gear change should be spot on...aim is to have the 350 up and running by March 18.

As an example, Tony from had recently repaired & rebuilt this RD400 engine, making the missing chain piece section from scratch. Lovely job.

Lastly, get as many miles in on my RD500 as possibile, had to have engine rebuilt in September, which was pass my facilities and skills, it always started first kick and ran well until warm and under load, crankcase seals had gone which was a bit of a kicker but its done now.

Hi Tim
My Plans for this year! - Im hoping to start my KR up, like yours its been standing still for about 6 years now as you know, I tried to move it last week, as yours the front brake was stuck on, is this just a matter of draining the brake fluid and removing the calliper to free the wheel, after that I'm going to see if it will start, with fresh fuel and new battery. Any advise before I start kicking the hell out of it..

If it's finally going to get an MOT, I ought to wash 10 years worth of filth off of it...

I Promise to finish the KR, already started to reassemble the engine, found the cause of the rattle, there was a shim missing from the gear cluster allowing the dogs of one of the gears to contact the crankcase, so the A2 crankshafts may have not been needed, well more spares to go with the bike, dating cert in place, so MOT and register left to do.
