tandem twin shock !!!

Post by corky »

Sounds like a newspaper headline...
But what i am after is any ideas for a replacement shock for my KR250. strokerboy and i have tried to source a reputable suspension specialist who will rebuild the KR250 rear shock but to no avail.
The problem is that the rear shock is an underslung one which works in extension rather than compresion and i dont know of many bikes that have a similiar setup and have rear shocks that are availale for purchase..
The only other option is converting it to a normal set up but i would prefer not to..

Can anybody help?

RD500LC was about all we came up with. Some Buell's too, and possibly even some of those H*rl*y's that have a pretend hardtail rear end.

This is a long shot the Rover P6 front shocks work in the same way probably a dead end but I thought I would mention it

Tried the suspension guys the shock is still with MCTechnics to see if he can come up with anything.
The TLR has a rotary damper and seperate spring unit same as my TLS, no good....
The buell X1W White lightning has an underslung shock but cant seem to get hold of one or any dimensions.

I know a guy who ownes one and asked him :

from center to center : 42cm
diameter spring 8.5 cm
there are two bars acrross the shock to pull : total diameter 11cm
both centers are an "eye", not the U-type, 12mm diameter

if you were to use one off these , he says to go for the White Power ones, not the Showa : they are crap and hard to rebuild.

Front solid mount is 28mm wide, with 12mm hole. Rear U-shaped mount is 29mm internal spacing, with 12mm hole. 31cm between centres. Measurements taken off my rusty old spare standard shock, off the bike. I don't have any data for spring rates or anything and there's nowt in the manual. :(

Let me know what they come up with. If you can get a discount for ordering more, I'll have one for my special too. Although the Maxton unit fitted to my TZR apparently cost the previous owner £550 !!!
