Part 1s Fairing Repairs

Post by Tambo »

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a bit off a knackered fairing top to patch into mine. I'm looking for a section of the right hand (sitting on the bike) top from at least half way down the access panel to its junction with the lower panel.

I'm trying to make the best of the fairing I've got (various minor repairs - pretty well done), but it's got a lot of fibreglass on the bit in question, and a 'welded' in section would be much better.

Cheers,

Tambo

Update -

Never managed to get any bits of fairing. Experimenting with timber formers, sheets of abs plastic, a heat gun, and plastic welding !!

It it works, I'll publish, if not, I might have a street fighter #-o

Lee (frog32) has got an original fairing in red/gray for sale, might be an option for you?!

Working on it - will know tonight if the shaped part works :D

Otherwise I'll have lots of photos to delete, and a fairing to find #-o

This looks to be doing the job :D :D

I'm having phone / camera problems, so I'll collate all the photos and do a proper explanation asap.

Basically, I've made a timber former of the part I needed, cut abs shapes, and bent them to follow the profile of the former using a heat gun. The sheets are then joined with a combination of proper plastic solvent, and plastic welding.

With a bit of practise, I'm sure most plastics could be made / repaired.

Outer fairing shape, and inner lip for access panel

Bent shapes glued, and plastic welded (through holes)

Fairing with offending fibreglass corner removed

New part glued into position

Lots of little cracks still to be welded before painting, but it's getting there !!

bike need to be repair

Post by Poul Wimsett »

The bike seems to be awesome but need some more restoration. But as you have mentioned that all tiny works has been done, and if you need to change the body parts be sure isn't it going to ruin the best part of the bike.
