which platers?
I have heard of two companies that do plating;
http://www.poetonaptec.co.uk/
http://www.langcourt.com/
Does anyone know of anyone else, and also, which ones do you recommend?

Re: which platers?
have heard langcourt are really good. but may be worth giving sean [the tuning works] a ring. he has done a few replates for me. he even chamfered the ports for me when I asked nicely, and also sean is a really nice guy

Re: which platers?
Aptec over anyone else by a long way. They have an innovative coating, which is harder wearing, low friction and higher resistance to marking than what your standard platers offer.
There are probably other benefits if you call them and ask, but those I do know are pretty good reasons.
Think they charge about £130 for a straight replate which is more than normal, but I'm a believer in you get what you pay for.

Re: which platers?
I've had 3 cylinders done by langcourts. Quick turn around but the rest i wasn't best pleased with. Dressing of the ports was shoddy at best. They left rough plating edges hanging down in the transfer ports and also raised my main exhaust port by 0.5mm when the dressed the port . I know the plating edges is a mute point as really one should do that themselves I suppose.
I will be trying aptec next time.

Re: which platers?
Mate had his RGV barrels replated at P.J.Engineering although they sourced the work out to a third party I believe
But when they came back the first time PJ's weren't happy with the work and sent them straight back so he is fussy which must be a good thing ?
Another reason to get an LC Howie as you don't have to put up with this with steel liners

Re: which platers?
Hi Guys,
I'm really interested in this thread as I am just about to buy new pistons and replate barrels for my KR1.
Never had a replate done before so please excuse the dumb questions
So when you guys are talking about dressing the ports is the a pre or post or pre & post plating operation? Do I need to dress the ports after plating or would this normally be done as part of the plating service?
I would personally feel more comfortable giving my barrels to someone I can trust so I can fit them straight off. Sean at TTW springs to mind.
Please let me know your thoughts
Cheers
Andrew
