The engine will not start.

Post by dirk » Mon Aug 07, 2017 9:52 pm

Hello everybody.

I was not here for a long time and i am a bit out of the issue.
Electricity is also not my strength.
unfortunately, my English has not improved.
so I need help from Google Translate.
so do not laugh too much ...

The engine will not start.
Prehistory:
for some time the engine starts cold very badly.
after the start, it took a few seconds for both cylinders to run.
i noticed that the speedometer suddenly goes to zero suddenly and then immediately again normal functions.
also the temperature pointer wobbles occasionally.
Motor temperature is always ok.
at the last ride a cylinder has failed completely.
the spark plug was very wet.
with a new spark plug the engine ran again.
today the engine is not started anymore.
Battery is ok and when the engine was still running, the charging voltage was ok.
with a warm engine, the engine starts normally.

the engine running is largely ok.
only between approximately 5000 - 6500 rpm the motorcycle runs like a bag of nuts (stutter).
Above and below the engine runs well.
Piston and crankshaft are about 4000km old.

How do I best deal with the problem?

greetings
Dirk

I think you have a bad connection somewhere. check earthground and all connectors. epecialy the one at the rectifier. if the connections look "greenish" , that may point to the problem.
You know it's cold outside when you trip over dog shit instead of standing in it.

Hello Jarno
Hello Jan

Thank's for the Tipps.
I'll look at the weekend.
@Jarno
I had the days for tuning the carburettor off the petrol tank.
the petrol tap was tight.
the bike did not stand very long (two weeks).
@Jan
I do my best, but with electric I get (even more) gray hair.

after all, I had a few thousand km almost no problems.
the leaky kips nerves only constantly.. :(

Cheers

Hello Dirk.

Check your connector that goes on the temp zender if it gets loose you get a temp meter that's wobbles

Check your connector that's for your sidestand if there is erosion in the wire you can get problems with starting and it won't rum properly or not at all

Dirk,

Perhaps your bike has several different problems. Poor starting from cold could be a blocked starter jet or passage in one or both of the carbs. This problem will make starting from cold very difficult, but starting from warm is usually OK (because you don't need the starter/choke).

As Jan & Jarno have suggested, some of the other problems could be related to bad or loose connections in one or more places of the wiring system. I'm not sure about the poor running in the 5000-6500rpm range (perhaps vibration in that speed range causes a problem for the electrical connectors...?), but perhaps you can fix the other problems first to see if it improves.

Let us know what you find!

Regards,
James

Good evening

Unfortunately I did not find anything.
have the ignition coil, the alternator, the side stand and the plug connections checked.

also the compression is measured.
left cylinder 10 bar pressure and right cylinder 10.5 bar
i think that is core healthy.

at the moment, the engine runs normally.
but something is lazy.
the flashing frequency is speed-dependent.
i hate electricity.

stutter between 5000 - 6500.
the engine was running too rich...hopefully.
i hung the needle deeper and it got a little better.

Cheers

Sounds to me like your stator has deluvered a spike to your CDI and knackered it.

Get that replaced and then look at replacing your CDI.
