Hi Kinky,
I haven't sprayed engine casings before (I prefer polishing) but I have done brake calipers and my only advice would be to spend plenty of time on the preparation of the surfaces and once you have a good layer of based coat on, refinish the surface with a 1200 grit wet and dry, then apply a good quality high temperature paint.you could finish with a 2K lacquer (but be very careful how and where you use it as the isocyanates are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ). I would have the finish lacquer applied by a professional painter.
Post some photos.

don't use plain spray can's. any drop of gas on it will eats it's way through it and there's no stopping it. all your work will be ruined very quickly.

My pal has done a few engine's in a canned paint called PJ1 high temp paint.
It takes a can per engine with him, but he's mainly working on Yamaha inline fours, fz750s as he's a nutter, the finish is pretty good, and I'm a painter for a living. I've told him it could be better if we took it in the booth and kept the temp up a little, but he's an akward bugger!!

Cheers Martin

pj1 seems the way to go by what I've read but can I finish it off with a 2pac varnish ?

their saying the modern pj1 is rubbish compared to what it used to be like , i`ve used tf95 paint from arc rite on ebay that is petrol resistant (to a point ) and is 1k so ok at home . i would take to someone to 2k them ,it will last ages

Yep, I've heard the pj1 isna the same, but the last engine he did is looking good still. But he is a hoarder,so the cans could be from 1998!!!
Two pack is probably a good idea, I'm no sure I would do the barrels and head though?

The rattle can paints nowadays just wash away at the first hint of petrol , infact, my mates "heat resistant engine" satin black paint will come away if you rub it over with a rag with WD40 on it!

Id had enough of the rattle cans anyway and both my 350 and 500 engines are now finished in 2pak , it looks better and is much more resistant to any spillages, that said, some people like to whip the barrels off and inspect/repaint it all once a year or so, which is cheap and easy to do I guess but 2pak paint is fine on engine cases, barrells and heads, if applied correctly. I can recommend Tony at AJs Aquablasting and restorations for doing a proper job anyway.

Hi Thanks for the replies ,forgot to say this is a TZR 125 that I'm spraying not the kr.

the biggest reason for rattle cans is I'm building the bike with my 12year old lad so trying to let him do as much as I can.

Think it will be 2pac for the casing and vht for the barrel ,see how it goes
