KIPS Valve Oil Seal

Post by Davy_G »

I'm new on here & searched for this, but I can't find anything relevant? So here goes...

How hard is it to change the 4x OIL SEALs on the KIPS valves on my C3 ??

The seals are clearly past their useful life, as spraying out black oil spots on the inside of the fairing, on every run. The question is, can the oil seal be replaced without removing the cylinder head or the KIPS valves? I understand the valves are fragile and are easily broken. No doubt other KR-1S users have already replaced these seals and can advise?

Many thanks. :P

You can replace them but you will need to remove the valves (requiring head removal)

Problem is the valves wear as well so the problem will come back eventually.

Unless you are prepared to take a risk breaking valves may be easiest just to keep cleaning the mess up :P

Cheers Garry, thanks for your reply.
I'll review how bad it's blowing out & decide how to proceed?
As you say, easy to carry some kitchen roll & "mop-up, as you go"
