2 stroke oil

Post by Binetta Steve »

Hi , those of you have seen my engine under the title "nasty vibration" will know i suffered major main bearing failure. Thanks to Martin i now have a rebuilt engine. I was runing on silkolene comp 2 premix and injector oil. I have another 2 stroke that can use this up.

Looking back over the forums there are numerous refs to motul 800 / 710 castrol a 747 or Plutolene mx5 silkolene comp 3

Given my riding will be road , not race. After running in i will be running injector through the pump.

What is the best oil for the type of duty i will be using the engine for

Thanks in advance

Probably not worth too much to you Steve, but here's my experience of a couple of those oils on your list.

I think the motul 800 road race is supposed to be pre-mix only, but not sure what others who use a pump feed think of that.

The A747 is 100% pre mix only. It's a castor based blend, so it tends to settle in the bottom of the container if you leave it a while.

Both are quality oil though.

Thanks Ben so that tends to rule those two out as an injector option, lets see what other folk think.

jep, that's what I use to 8)

it is ester-type that can be used with injector and premix, not many esters are suited for both.

This is an option, its just that a present everything is empty oil tank etc, and i wanted to poll on what folk thought the best oil for injectors was. I know realistically the damage to my main bearing was probably started a while ago. I just wanted to give it a good start.

I would buy the most expensive you can afford. I use RS 959 and it is very expensive. . I feel if you use a top brand oil you will ride with more confidence, it gives a little more reasurance.
As i say, Putoline ttx in my daughters speedfight 50, i thrash the hell out of this little machine to an indicated 50mph, i would not be comfortable doing this with cheap oil.

for the road you can use either Motul 800's in the pump (road race or off road),the road race wont burn as cleanly though but wont foul plugs (just alot of smoke when you've been riding slow and open it up,the off road version doesnt do this and is better for All round use but doesnt suffer from power fade like some clean burning oils can.
Silkolene pro 2 and putoline 959 work fine is pump aswell.
DONT use semi synthetic (comp 2 or similar) in a KR,its just asking for trouble.

Worth trying Opie oils, think you get discount as a forum member, good service.
The going rate for decent oil is around the £20 mark give or take.
