which model do i have and a few ques before the rebuild

Post by rhyde »

hi guys starting to commence the massive undertaking of the ground up resto

just wanted to know exactly which model i have. I bought it like this, and someone has told me it is not indicitive of the year it was registered, i.e graphics different.
im confused cos it appears to be correct
it is 91 model as registered

this resto like many on here i want to be original as it walked out the door. so to order parts, etc and to have the graphics repainted correct, i need to know if what you see is in fact correct

1. Also i attached a picture of the lower area of the fairing, towards bellypan area, the cracking on that has me confused again as to how it got like that, is it salvagable to be painted properly, oorrrr is it too far gone.

2. What is the most accurate way of getting the frame and swingarm and other parts like footpegs to the most original match of the way it came out. Sprayed or powercoated...?

thanks all in advance, amazing site here
cheers
rob

It's honestly difficult to say from thoses photos. I can tell you it's a C3 colour scheme, but the calipers are gold at the front which is not consistent with the C3.

A '91 should be a C2 if knowledge serves me correct, so it may have been painted in the C3 scheme. This also might explain the crazed paint on the belly pan.

What's the frame number?

A good painter would be able to sort everything out though and some of the guys that do top class restorations on here will be able to advise on the best finish for your frame.

It's got black mirrors, so it could well have been an ebony and green model

It's also got a non GB rear mud guard/number plate. Where are you from?

Just had another look, knowing Danny posted this info on models and frames etc.

1989 KR250-C1 = KR250C-000001-
1990 KR250-C2 = KR250C-001001-
1991 KR250-C3 = KR250C-006801- 9000? (guess)
1991 KR250-C3A (NZ SP) = KR250C-0068**-68**? 0073**-0073**?

It would seem a '91 fits perfectly with that colour scheme you have there, with the exception of the colour of your mirrors and front brake calipers.

Check out the frame number and see if it ties in with this info.

could be the mirrors are pattern ones as originals were damaged? Pattern ones only available in black as far as I know. Calipers could have been changed too. Have a look at the mirrors and see if there are any markings on the back, genuine ones will have. See if the calipers have been painted? if they're stock they might have the paint peeling off them, they're not great even when new!
