How to measure ignition coil and pick-up

Post by Mouser »

Hi folks,

Not sure everybody reads the engine part....

I'm posting the electrical part of my topic here also:

""""""
thanks for your info.

But I would be glad knowing how to measure the following, to be sure.

What voltage does the ignition coil get ? When switched on or only when "kicking"?
Can the ignition coil connections be switched? Or has one to be the ground?

How can the coil be tested/measured? Voltage/resistance?

thanks

Any electrical checks that you can do are shown in the manual

http://www.kr-1s.co.uk/manual/

I don't think any one will have information that isn't in there

I did check the manual.....

I thought some guys would have maybe mor info than the manual....there are geeks out there though ;).

So anybody knows how to measure/check the ignition coil an pick-up?

Ps: Can the 2 connectors of the ignition coil be inverted or does that harm the coil?

thanks

As above really, both coils are just a load of wire, I did have a couple of spares to compare with, but just found trial and error the best option. My test values were 'around' what the manual stated.(some I thought out of spec worked fine??)

I found one stator coil u/s, one pick-up u/s, and slightly cracked. The pick-up gap also looked too large but you're unable to change this.

Test the ign' coil by a meter on each plug lead, with caps removed. I doubt reversing connections helps, so try and stick to how they should be wired. (Orange +ve and black/yell -ve, guessing here)
