Tuesday night means my regular visit to the Pitstop Cafe.
It was a bit quiet again tonight (getting darker and colder), but the darker bit was one of the main reasons I wanted to go.
The headlight on my bike is crap, so while I had the fairings off, measuring and making some radiator brackets for John Farley so he can fit a large YFZ450 radiator, I thought I would try and fit an LED conversion. They are a bit bigger than a standard H4 bulb as they have a fan and heat sink that sticks out at the back (I will edit this later and post a photo of the standard H4 bulb and the LED one). I will post some photos and a drawing of the brackets in the right section of the forum.
The LED fitted, it was a VERY tight fit. But I am very pleased with the result.
The beam pattern is a bit naff, but the increase in light was massive. The road in front of me was lit up with a very bright white light. I will mess about with the beam adjusters when I get a moment. But I am happy that I can see the road and drivers can see me.
Cheers,
Bernie

Bernie I had HID main fitted to my GS650. The light output in terms of colour and spread was stunning. Coming home on 2:10 at night was like daylight.
Only issue, complex wiring as the bulb arcs at something like 15’000 volts then warms up slowly to full power. Maybe thats why in the 2018 update of the bike mot HID’s were not allowed.
You might need to run a halogen for your mot , then switch back to LED after.

Hi Steve,
LEDs are OK for MOT's as they have instant switching from dip/high, no flicker or start up delays.
My mate installed a HID hi/low conversion on his ZZR14, bombing down a country lane at night, flicked on high beam. TOTAL DARKNESS! !!! While the high beam warmed up. Clean underwear required.
Great output but potentially dangerous.
Cheers,
Bernie

Your right about high beam, the guy who fitted mine runs a business called HID50 and knows his stuff. For ages he didn’t recommend high beams , but then they brought out fast start, that do just that.
Other point on HIDs on BM’s is they need to be canbus compatible otherwise you get a bulb error. I may try led on the BM when the current halogen blows.
On a four wheel note the missus Mazda has LED follow you round corner lights, stunning lights, its the way to go.

Hi Steve
My Prius has some of the best LED headlights on the market, I have them on all the time (old habit from driving Volvos). But even in daylight I can cast a shadow of the car in front, and can clearly see where my low beam is. At night I can come up behind a new BMW and all he will see is his own shadow as my lights light the road up past him.
Be safe, be seen!

Re: Tuesday Night Regular Meeting at the Pitstop Cafe Stockton on Tees
Went to the first Post Covid-19 local bike meet tonight.
It was brilliant to get out on the bike and give all my neighbors a smell of Castrol.
The 2T lads were out in force, with four 350 LCs, two 350 power valves, and a VJ22 and an RVG125.
Only one KR1-S.
But still a great evening, I had forgotten just how loud the induction roar of the QVAS 35s
The two strokes stole the show
Cheers
