Thanks for the feedback guys, am i better off just leaving the flaking then around the steel inserts or trying to sand it down or something?

I do hope the engine hasnt been stolen in a previous life and re stamped? I guess there is little i can do about it now if it is the case?

Right then barrells and head of Garye345 , rubbers off Martin and crank rebuilt :D

Well, picked up the barrells and head and Cush drive from Garye345 today (thank you Chris, very much appreciated!!)

So getting them vapour blasted on Friday, not going to bother with a crank rebuild as it looks (fingers crossed) minty :) no play that shouldnt be there etc, which mean, i can start the engine rebuild on Friday night 8)

What would you guys do about this? Looks like someone has tightened the stud to much and cracked the casting :(

Get the stud out, some JB weld? (its only on the exhaust outlet, but both sides)

Advice welcome :)

A bit more progress tonight

OK, a pic of my new head, looking 900% better than my old head :)

You cant beat a good bit of head ;D

Just installing the Crank balancer (making sure the punch marks are alinged)

Image

Old dodgy carb rubbers........wouldnt do the fuelling much good eh!

Image

New Carb rubbers, much better (and very hard to get hold of!)

Image

A nice well lit work space, with the essentials for a build, no not the manual, the beer and fags ;D (just for Olly)

Image

Ahhh Cassette gear boxes, great aint they !

Image

Gear box in, This is a dry run, no gaskets or anything yet.

Engine mock up

do you think i will loose much compression with this gap in the head? my mate said it would be ok? ;) :p
