Barrel to case dowels

Post by NOS EXUP »

I have a question regarding the dowels used to locate KR1S barrels to case.

Are only 2 dowels used and have they always been located on the two rear outer studs ?

The parts diagram shows 2 dowels but located on the 2 forward studs ??

The 2 base gaskets have dowel sized holes (larger) at all 4 rear stud positions ?

Also does anyone know the best method for cleaning off unwanted Wellseal residue squeezed from the joint.

Thanks

I used to use Octane booster or carb cleaner to remove the sticky gasket residue.

yes
Cave!
The cylinders can turn around the dowels!
You must align the cylinders carefully.
torque hand-tight down the nuts before assemble the cylinder head.
is the head torque down in many (!) steps than torque down the cylinder nuts again.
If not...
Perhaps you do not get the cylinder head leakproof !
that's my experience.
