These race exhaust pipes as a pair weight only 5.1kg. A pair of Genuine Kawasaki KR1S road exhaust pipes weight 10.8kg
yeah missing that does suck - they were no longer correct F3 mufflers so dont feel so bad
I'll go home tonight and weigh a clean standard set

I already have a set of the cans that were fitted to them, mine have Stan Stevens stamped on them & are repackable, but would have liked to have brought the pipes though

So I was having a rummage in the shed today - looking for a half decent clutch when I came across a new crank
Didn't even know I had that. I had sent 6 to SEP and they managed to build 2 good ones so now have 3
Today is a good day |
Are you sure you havent got a set in your shed Mark

KR-1S exhaust weight confirmed
Expansion Chamber = 4.2 kg (getting lighter by the day)
Muffler OEM = 1.15 kg (1.2) = 10.7 kg pair

Wish I could tell you Spoke to Graham File about them, he did suggest that they might make the engine run hotter, he suggested that I ran his engine on standard kr1s pipes, then try the "kit pipes" on the track as he did have problems in the past where although the "kit pipes" gave more power on the dyno they tended to cause detonation in race situations. I'm hoping to pick my engine up this week I will ask him . Or someone on here might be able to explain in more detail

I didnt know what they (F3 kit chambers) looked like either until a KR-1R came up on Yahoo last year with them on.
dimensionally they look much the same as standies, maybe more care paid to some of the seams.
They probably came out B era as the C was beginning construction - so are what the C pipes were based around. (cost of tooling)
They do have identical flattened outside faces for ground clearance/cornering (cant see in this view though)
obviously thin sheet construction as cracking repair indicate
like most race bikes and motorcrossers they have spring retainers to the cylinder and the muffler for quick maintenance
I have never cut a standard pipe open (although I have had a pair from an SP that I had X-rayed due to some unusal plugs welded onto the lower header region).
I Could not determine if the construction is double skinned or not.
I had this pair HPC (ceramic) coated on the outside, and have been sitting around dry (chemically dipped) and empty - now somewhere on the inside is corroding - loosing large chunks (rust) material.
This suggest the header bend is thick gauge single, and the belly is double skinned - I think some folks here have had pipes gutted before.
The kit pipes like a MX chamber would be 18/19 gauge sheet (1.2, 1.0mm or thinner), single skin construction - hence why they are approximately half the weight. 5kg is a large advantage - anyone got weights of Lomas/Gibsons/Nikons etc?
[i]Yes a pipe will affect tune - Pipe manufacturers products (ProCircuit, FMF etc) all claim power advantages over standard, as realised this maybe only 1 to 4hp, enough to blow a motor? If it was running on the very limits of tune to start with.

Don't think so - got plenty of pipes in there but pretty certain they are all stock. Having said that one pair was considerably lighter
