Exhaust decoke

I've been reading through some old posts on this subject and I reckon the caustic soda method seems to be the way to go for the spannies.
I am still unsure though what strength solution I should make up,and how long do i leave it

The method is an obvious no no for the silencers,so does anyone have a the solution here

Thanks falconman.I'm not inclined to open them up myself but I will have a crack at the paint stripper method.

Another idea for cleaning the spannies (because caustic soda doesn't get the worst of it off ) is to buy one of those cheap drain cleaning springs (cut it to length) & attach it to a drill.

10mins forward & 10mins reverse & bingo, one pile of hard carbon crap on your garage floor

get some offcut of some wire rope off a old winch or sumats ,stick that in a powerdrill ,if it whips around to much do 1 short un ,one medium ,and one long un,ie:- dont start until uve put the rope in the exhaust ,don`t know how much caustic you need ,me dad used to do it with me brothers bikes ,ide go stronger than what it says on the packed ,plug one end and leave to soak a day at least,wash out and give it some with the cable

ive tried doing the quick oxy accetaline heat up the insides then blast with oxygen or a airline but standard kr1s spannies dont seem to be straight through,will get some pictures up when i get the grinder out

Not done it since my ER50 Now that we live in the times of the 'mentalists' - environmentalists, that is - what do you do with the liquid that comes out ?? Not sure I'll get away with tipping it down the side of the shed anymore

I was surprised at how coked mine are, as I'd have thought previous owners would run them on decent oils....................

And yes, the caustic will make your ally bits look a lot less shiny, I dipped some greasy fork bottoms years ago to see what happens, got rid of the grease! Best I can say really

We never had any problems with weeds in those days tho.

Back in the olden days a friend of mine had access to some (stuff ) that was used to clean milk churns.

The logic of two 15 yr olds thought that it would also work on an exhaust

So we bunged up an RM 125 exhaust an filled it to the brim with the miracle solution and left it hanging from the shed roof for a couple of hours.When we tipped it out there was a wee bit of crap,but not the desired full clean out.

So we refilled it and left it overnight and all the next school day.When we went back there was no need to empty it it had perforated the bend in the pipe and leaked out.

Still don't know what that stuff was
