pre mix or oil pump?

Post by raw1981 »

Making some progress on my kr1 engine. Had the crank seals rebuilt by Graham File.

As I rebuild the engine my thoughts turn to why the crank went in the first place. My guess is it wasn't getting enough oil sure enough the hose from the oil reservoir to the pump was a nasty aftermarket hose that was kinked on its way to the oil pump.

I saw an ad on ebay for a kr1s where the seller mentions that he has converted his engine to run on pre mix. Do you just pour a blob of 2 stroke into the tank when you fill up?

How would you go about solving this problem?

Cheers

Rick that took me back to when I had a BSA bantam.

If your using your bike on the road I would say stick with the pump. They are reliable enough. Just make sure it's working correctly. The manual explains how to do it. Start it up on premix and check the pump is doing it's job.

I pre mix for my husqvarna WR 250 but when I'm on a longish ride I have to fill up and measure oil into the tank at 50/1 depending on how much fuel I've put in. It's not what you want to be doing unless you have to.
