Nothing wrong with tatty but original paintwork, I'd much prefer to see that instead of a pristine respray in green/white. 8)
You could always build a streetfighter version, due to the fact that most of the bodywork is missing, availability, and finances. I recall a neat bike built in Japan a few years back; I think there are pics on Strokerboy's site.
Yeah, that'd be Tono's Bike

Thanks guys, it's nice that you like the thread so far. About the streetfighter version, yes I've seen it on StrokerBoy's great website! I like it, but I like more the idea of a KR as it was produced, or close to it. Some modifications for better handling and braking are to be considered!

Hello there gents! Well, i don;t have anything to add, and I still haven't found the pics of the engine while it was apart, nor of the air-filter fitted (the 660 Raptor one). However, I got me a front fairing in really bad condition, full of cracks, painted black. I found it in Aus ebay, the guy wouldn't post outside Oz, so a friend from another forum (aus based) bought it and sent it to me (Thanks Arthur). Internet at its best! I haven;t got down to painting or repairing it, the bracket seems to be slightly bent as the left side of the fairing doesn't sit properly. However, I'd like to tell you of an incident that has me scratching my head.
Last summer, I took the bike to a longer ride (no papers, no licence plates, nothing). It really sang! The ride was on a mountainous, curvy road, lack of right footpeg made the ride interesting but it was really nice riding that 30 year old bike. However, while coming back down the mountain, I had the engine idling (neutral in gear box) and was just rolling. Perfect idling, some throttle openings to feel the rpm rise , all well. When the road became flat (no more downhill), I put the 3rd gear on and the rear wheel drifted uncontrollably, like a had a sudden flat tyre or I drove on oil. And it was just that. All the transmission oil left the crankcase and spilled on the rear tyre. Any ideas what could have caused this? I can only assume an oil seal but which? Bike still starts on first to 3rd kick if it hasn't been left sitting more than a week, idles and sounds fine. I thought the gear lever seal, but then oil wouldn't have filled the under belly, it would have gone straight to the chain/rear tyre/ road.
Any guess as to which seal could be or any other solutions to the question how it happened/what caused it?

Well, just to invoke interest, here are some pics from summer of 2012. A sunny day off work, and the best thing I could get myself to do was to clean two or three bikes, get a photoshoot and sit down enjoy an ice cold coffee and one or ten cigarettes! :D

Sorry fuad, I missed your reply. Yes, what paint there is, is original. I hope that when I get all the parts I need, I will start saving money for a decent respray, as the rules to get a bike registered as a classic, strictly state that the bike must be immaculate.

Well, I haven't logged in for quite some time. I am back to inform you that thanks to the legend Doug I now have a right hand footrest. Doug YOU ARE A LEGEND! THANK YOU VERY MUCH. It was actually the same week that an envelope arrived at my doorstep

Inside was the longed for object

The same reasons that kept me from logging in, also kept me from trying the part. So, last week I had a chance to install it. When I did, I noticed that the left footpeg was bent towards the back. A couple of strong hammering managed to straighten it enough to make little difference both to the eye and the riding. At the same time I decided to try and bend the lower exhaust so as to avoid the contact between the silencer (or rather its protective-decorative cover) and the end of the rear axle. It was a much harder task than I expected, but I think I've actually done it. I also thought that maybe I cold try some car wheel paint on the upper exhaust shield. I didn't pay attention to smoothening the hits and rust it had suffered though and just painted it. When all the problems are solved I'll deal with the cosmetics. I also straightened the fairing bracket using a piece of steel pipe I had laying around. I guess it was a day of straightening things out. I also bled the front brake system, much better feeling now, and performance too.
So I took the bike out for a ride. It was amazing. At least as much as it lasted. Which wasn't that long, as about 2kms down the way, the needle in the temperature clock climbed in the red zone. I stopped the engine and felt the radiator. It was rather cool to the touch. The hoses above the water pump however were hot. REALLY hot. I waited some minutes and took the way home. about 400 meters before I reached the safe zone (the end of an uphill), the hose that goes from the thermostat to the rad left it's place and after using my ninja technics I managed to avoid getting burned by the sizzling coolant.
Some half an hour later, I took all the cooling system apart, beginning with the thermostat which appeared in great condition. However, I'll have to make some tests to see. Of course I don't know when that will be as I have decided to first finish with my other have finished projects (3, a TZR2503MA, an RGV250VJ22 and my beloved TDR2503CK) and then start again with the KR and my newly acquired, worse than a pile of _rap, Suzuki GT550A.
BUT, I decided I should do a video of the KR running, even before I took the cooling system apart, just to show you guys that it actually works :D ! Of course with the temp rising fast I didn't give it some proper revving but you know how it sounds when WOT, don't you? Lo and behold my first youtube video!

Cheers, Fanis

PS1: Doug you're a legend mate, can't thank you enough!
PS2: Sorry for the inevitable grammar and spelling mistakes, I only use English on the Internet, WWW!
PS3: Did I mention it? Doug, you are the man! A legend! Thanks!

WOW!

3 1/2 years ago when I was starting my project, I started buying bits I thought I would need. I bought what was advertised as a pair of KR250 rider footpegs and was very disappointed when they arrived as they did not look the same as the ones on my bike (C3 KR1-S)

Now I know why.......

Hahaha, that's usually the way it goes mate! A friend of mine had been searching for some parts for his RD350 YPVS, I had no idea what this parts were, he searched for years for them. One day he comes by my garage, and while moving some stuff around, he screamed at me things unfit to be published here. It seems I had the parts he had been searching for years in perfect condition, stored inside a box full of parts that don't fit any of my bikes but I don't wanna sell/throw! I never knew where I got them from.

So, wha about those pegs mate? Selling them, or will you build a tandem KR around them?
