Fuel Injection
Has anyone fitted fuel injection (Ecotrons?) to an engine, successfully or otherwise? Any comments welcome.

Hi Supastar,
$500 is a lot of money and effort to replace a pair of very effective carbs, just give your carbs a clean and keep your pennies.

Bimoto couldn't do it on the V due. Ford tried it in one of their fiestas. The simple answer is not yet .....

These people have plug and play systems for small motors. http://www.ecotrons.com/
Here, for example, is the full installation for a Ninja 250R. This engine has 28 mm carbs.

What is interesting is that with the control loop system, the EFI is automatically adjusted for the various variables, temp. pressure etc., and would even reprogramme itself if the fuel changed. They have a 34 mm throttle body which is fully engineered but the 38 mm would require some engineering.

that Ninja is a 4-stroke.
when injection became common on motorbikes, 2-strokes already left the building. and it's not easy adapting - let alone engineering one yourself - a fuel-injection system onto a 2-stroke. the ideal way would be to inject the fuel directly into the combustion-chamber after the exhaust port is closed so you do not lose fuel through to exhaust.
but that creates a new problem : fuel in the crankcase will no longer cool down the piston from the underside, and fuel entering the cylinder and going over to top of the piston will no longer cool down the very hot piston-top. And Jan Thiel says that is THE most important factor in cooling you piston.
So you might gain on fuel-ecenomy and emmissions by not wasting fuel through the exhaust, but you'll lose power because you piston gets to hot. And I don't think we ride these old 2-*strokes because we care about the environment, but because we like the power they make. So no, you'll find very little people on this planet who have tried this.
