Nice one. Don't forget to give us full details of the materials/techniques once it's finished. :D

I've had some success with PLASTEX, using it to fill cracks and gaps in broken fairings.

And there's some DIY plastic-welding tips on my site HERE.

did you jut mould the molten plastic arround it ? then I doubt it will be tough enough once trimed down, as both plastics ain't welded together.

hope I'm wrong though, keep us updated

The black stuff is a molding agent that Plastex sells to allow fabrication of broken tabs etc. You heat it up, it gets all rubbery , then you simply apply it over a tab that is good. Then it hardens to the shape of the tab. The newly formed tab mold is then transferred to the broken area, aligned , there has to be a fill point for the powder and liquid to go in. To be honest this is one of the biggest repairs I have done and I have not opened it up yet. I'm worried that the powder/liquid flowed deep enough.

It did not flow all the way in, but that's not too bad I can just do it over, I tried a little different approach.

Now that I have been working with fiberglass, maybe I should looked into fabricating a reproduction race setup. Too late now :?

It would have been a lot of work

It's been quite some time since I last logged here, and I completely missed this thread! Great job so far pepsi, I also like the different approach to the whole restoration thing! I've heard/read amazing reviews on Plastex, I have to give it a try someday. Keep up the good work mate,

more mock ups with masking tape, the "KR1-S" is a place keeper, I will need to come up with something like it, like maybe " KR-250S".... that might not fit as well , so maybe "KR1-Z" ?
