KR-1R frame number search...
D1 - 130

Some missing frame numbers possibly not road registered?

Likely total 180

from what I have seen of all the B chassis the engine numbers
(NZ sample of new and imported 29 (B) bikes ranging #626 to #3678 where the engine wasnt transplanted or incorrectly filed on VIN/rego)

...is that the engine numbers lag behind the chassis 500 units (on average)
so chassis B 813 had E 352
and chassis B 924 had E 520 and so on

so perhaps this indicates that chassis KR250B-000500 hand engine KR250BE000001?

I'M NOT DOUBTING CHASSIS KR250B-000001 to 000500 DOESNT EXIST,
- IT JUST DOESNT FOLLOW THE CHASSIS/ENGINE TREND,
(and the are large holes in the chassis ranges of the C models)
WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY WERE DOING ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE

IT DOES SEEM INCREDIBLE THAT THEY WOULDNT START A NEW MODEL RANGE AT CHASSIS #0001
...THAT IS WHY THIS THREAD EXISTS
the Kawasaki website lists chassis records for
KR250B-000001....0046 and 0049

The earliest import I know of in NZ is chassis B #626 where the engine number wasnt recorded.

My single info also suggests the rare Ebony/Metallic Zeus Blue (C1) models might be in the range KR250C-000500

What Saké were they drinking when they went to KR250C-300001 and not KR250D-000001 ?
I now own frame kr250b 000813 with engine 000352

To add the number of my KR-1 frame to the list: KR250B004846. It has a German-language type plate riveted onto the steering head in addition to the number stamped into the steering head, though I didn't buy the frame in Germany.
My second crankcase set is KR250BE007117. Both my crankcase sets are from the UK.

great info Jarmo - where is frame 000001 ?
printed parts list was dated November 1987
so bikes were built in 6 months prior to release in Jan/Feb 1988

KR250B-00xxxx
KR250C-300xxx
KR250C-00xxxx
here is a sequence from 7 bikes at the C3 end of production scale
where the engine is now higher than the chassis (because of those 3 variations)

frame, engine
KR250C-00685x, engine 852x
KR250C-00685x, engine 856x
KR250C-00685x, engine 851x
KR250C-00734x, engine 897x
KR250C-00734x, engine 895x
KR250C-00734x, engine 895x
KR250C-00734x, engine 895x, February 1991

August 1992, USA, Chassis KR250C-008239, KR250BE-009902
Image
...contact Javier, San Antonio, Texas

does engine KR250BE-009999 exist?

Interesting info from Jarno about the earliest bikes being built in June 1987...! Is it possible that the new model launch was delayed for some reason?

Does anyone know if spare frames and engine cases were delivered with serial numbers already stamped, or with the serial number panels blank? If not stamped, I guess the customer was supposed to transfer the numbers from their original (likely damaged) parts.

James

My experience with S2s, H1s and H2s is that new spare frames and crankcase sets had no numbers, though this policy may have changed over the years due to changes in legislation.

spare frames never have numbers.

only when they become motorcycles they get numbers.

if spare frames had numbers, it would be far to easy for the thieves ... !
