That bike looks great! And no, I wouldn't sell it either, although for me the best looking Ducati is the 750F1 Santa Monica.

You can use ordinary unleaded fuel, no problem.

Good when your problem is solved, but it could be the start of the coil giving up.....

Ah, well I'll keep an eye on it so to speak to check it all out.
Thanks for the info. Will probably buy those bits anyway so I have them 'just in case'. That'll ensure they are never needed (but rest assured if you don't have them you WILL need them!!!).
Well the 916 was voted a while back as the most iconic bike of the age (and the 748 is the same with 168cc's less so?? :D ).

Noisy dry clutch, but you get used to the clatter :shock:

I just bought them, need them myself, as my bike suddenly wouldn't start last weekend, had to push it for 4.5 miles ](*,)

Well, I just got back from work (before doing paperwork at home) and decided to give it another kick over to check it out even though it had just started raining. Still very cold here too. Three prods and its going fine again. Must find a way to hold that damn footpeg up though as I clip it everytime. Might be because it's not an original perhaps?

Thanks for cheering me up :? Found the error at home: the values for the exciter coil resistance aren't ok. Luckily I got a spare stator here.

No, my original one does the same.

And no, it's not very cold yet, must still be 8 degrees celsius, that's nearly warm..... :D

Changed the stator and fitted R6-coils, engine starts at first kick again!

How long did the change-over take approx and why R6 coils? Are they the same/better than the std (probably now non-available) KR1's ?
Having changed both parts, which was at fault; both?

Hi LSM,

the change-over took 20minutes, mainly because the head of one screw was rotten. Otherwise it would have been faster. Built my own flywheel-holder out of the rest of a book case (yes, it does look as sorry as it sounds, pic upon request :mrgreen: ), but it did the job.

I took R6-coils cause I had them lying around here. I bought them some months ago after reading The Flute's coils topic.

Standard coil is still available but these are better, can post a pic of the R6-ones if you like.

Both parts were at fault: the resistance values of the exciter coil of the stator were out of range (values are in the manual). Plus the clip on the ignition coil (which holds the HT leads) was broken, the HT leads were being held in place with a tie wrap :shock: . Furthermore one of the needles (thorn?) in the coil, where you put the HT leads on, was nearly missing......

Now it starts again a first kick, but (new) without the need of the choke and it idles instantly.

The Kwack HT coils are no longer available but you can get a pattern part to suit (see KRchive section). I tried the R6 coils some time ago but due to my air ram setup the coils were foiling the water pipe to the rad so I had to give up on the idea.

Book case Flywheel holder? I can't begin to imagine. Does it depend on what class of book was being used in it? I mean 'Zen and the Art of Mototorcycle Maintainance' for example? :shock:

I just got chased in again from my 'Blue Sky' open air (bl%dy gray sky more like) garage. P1551ng down now.
Got 120 miles to do in a Caterham 7 after 2pm too. Oh great. Cr*p weather; Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :evil:

But if I remember correctly they are the same as on the RD350 1WW and I got one of those brandnew a year and a half ago. Don't think they're are Kwack only, seem to be standard Nippon Denso coils.

ive used a fewe coils from diffrent bikes with no problem. as long as its a wasted spark coil with x2 leads then it should work fine. the things you need to take into account are the length of the leads and more of an annoyance, the mounting holes line up. not the end of the world if they dont but nice to just be able to plug/play without faffing. im going to gety a brand new coil (pattern) to see if theres a improvement in the spark. its easy to dismiss the coil but ill bet the bike feels much sharper with new coil/plugs and a fully charged battery(total loss).

they are standard Denso items but quote the kwack part number and it'll come back as NLA. I just got one of the pattern ones from Wemoto and they are excellent.

quick question elf. did you cut the leads down from the coil you got from wemoto do the leads have to be exactly the same length as standard :?:
