I've seen that kr1 on ebay before. Stands out with the white frame.

I used grampian for my crank rebuild. Came to 330 quid all in with a new centre shaft from bdk. Very good service!

I could move the flywheel up and down on my crank when it was rumbling. Mine was pretty badly gone though.

sounds to me like clutch-rattle.

does it go away with a bit of revs or when you pull the clutch ? if so, learn to except it

No it doesn't change at all with the clutch

Its definitely NOT the crank,if it was a main bearing on its way out you would feel vibration through the bars and pegs when revving it,if it was the big end well they normally just let go through oil starvation.
Still sounds like its coming from the clutch area,got decent/enough gear oil?
be worth taking the cover off and checking the clutch.

Well I've removed the engine today and stripped it and cannot find anything wrong all bearings feel/look fine so I'm at a loss now, probably just going to rebuild it and ride it

I thought they just took a std 10-40w motor oil for the gearbox. Is there a better one to use?

It needs to be gear oil or dexron. You have a wet clutch which is reliant on the oil. Standard motor oil will knacker your clutch friction plates..

manual says standard 10W40, but off course bike-engine-oil and not car-oil

I just put ATF in mine.

Have a look at the gear that is on the back of the clutch basket and associated gears and check that none of the teeth are chipped,

When my lc engine was rebuilt it had this and the top edge of the teeth should be flat (not sure on a kr) but three of them in a row were pointy and two had very small chips, it sounded like the engine was knackered

Something is making that noise,

Just in case you're unfamiliar with this acronym, it's Automatic Transmission Fluid, also known as Dexron.

Check those teeth as Paul has suggested too.

was it spenser barrows, or something like that.
he has 2 massive dogs,
am pleased for you it is,nt the crank, they are expensive to rebuild. just had two rebuilt at bdk. both rebuilt with new centre shafts £700

I also believe it is the clutch.
my KR sounds as if i had a dry clutch.
especially with the engine cold.
I think always the engine is broken.
what the heck ... it's a KR!

i use Motul Transoil Expert.

That's the chap, although he only had one dog when I went and was down to one bike when I left. What did you buy off him?

I don't mind paying out for things if I've proved it's at fault, as I said I don't like mysteries.

I bought a black/green kr1s. ended up stripping it as it needed loads doing.
I don't think the guy knew much about fixing bikes.
did you get the bike for a good price
