Garry, at the moment, I'm thinking of a KR1 based scheme, but different colours. Black for the majority, then use the 1 stripes but get them done in silver and white, possibly having 1S style number boards white edged silver.
Then the engine will be done either vapour blasted and nice clean alloy or get the casings and barrells done black-don't know yet. If I do either of these options I think I may just fit nose cone fairing perhaps using the top bit of the rgv vj21 and then adapt it.
Does anyone know if any other radiators can be used easily enough, need one for this and was thinking of something a bit more pretty/interesting?
Oh aye also shown in the pic is a 4dl swinger that may be going into the other one fairly soon, I've got to make a bracket up to move the shock mount further back, that'll give clearance for the spring, other than that it goes straight in and the bottom suspension linkage point is in the same relative position to the KR, the only difference being that the 4dl one is slightly wider so some small spacers would be needed. Gap to take wheel is exactly the same as the KR so rear wheel, caliper hanger etc can stay exactly the same. The best thing about these arms is that you can get them for bugger all compared with an rgv bannana one.

Never thought of that really, will do something at some stage when I've sussed out what swaps are easily done etc.Garry wrote: mark why don't you make a post in the kive section of things that

that many different thngs i know i for one i can't remember what
works![]()
where do you get all these bits from? whats a 4dl?
Bits, here, there and everywhere

4dl is the Italian tzr125rr Belgarda, if I can get this one to work, I'll be trying to get hold of an szr660 arm, which is a bit more beeefy, I think that the frame of the 4dl is similar to the szr660, the other one that also may work is the last of the italian tzr125rr, thnk that had an arm almost identicial to the 3xv, but not certain. It also has a nice little hugger so that's another little addition.
Here's a couple of pics of a valve with a 4dl arm in.

REALLY like the look of this =D>
im getting all my wheels and frame etc powder coated so hopefully A1 do a good job and get a finish like yours (having used them previously this shouldnt be a problem)
are this blade Nissins any better than the 1S's standard setup??

Well, to be honest I think they're an improvement, not by a huge amount but enough to make a difference, their major advantage, in my opinion, is build quality, availability and cost.SHimmer45 wrote:are this blade Nissins any better than the 1S's standard setup??

This is one of the pair I've just got for this bike, paid £38 and that's complete with new seals and hh pads. A quick clean up with some brake cleaner and they've come up pretty good, the other option would have been to buy a set of tokicos but in all honesty every pair I've seen ends up looking like the paints coming off. The blade calipers in general are going to be much newer so in theory should be in better nick. The ones to go for are off the 929 rry I think, these are the ones with the angled bleed nipples.
As for fitting them, two ways have some top hats made to fit in the fork legs to space the caliper from the fork lega couple of mm and to reduce the hole size (these take an m8 bolt the KR is an m10) or have the caliper body drilled out and then re tapped to take the m10 bolt and get some spacers (washers) to align up to the discs.

A fruitful day for the project, got an engine, pipes and front wheel for it .
Might see a bit of progress with it if I can get the other few bits I need (see wanted section) Better get the wheel bearings out and the end cans off, wheel for blasting and coating and pipes need blasting before a coat of bbq paint.

As per previous post, got front wheel, engine and pipes now so had to make adecision about the engine finish. Been umming and aahing about what to do, vapour blast, just clean it up myself or powdercoat.
Well on the old kr1-s.net site I remembered seeing Majames (I think) engine and it was immaculate, no way I could get it anywhere near as good. Vapour blasting was a probable, but I dio occasionally like to use my bikes in winter and still had doubts about the durability of the finish given weather conditions etc-So off to Triple S it was with a box of bits, picked up the top end today and this is what it looks like. (crankcases etc to follow in a week or so)

I've gone for black cos I think what I'll probably end up doing is using this black engine in the KR1 with the nikkons and carbon lomas cans on (black, black and more black, I think I may have a problem here
) from the other one and get a set of stainless lomas ones for that (plus vapour blast the engine).
If that's the case I'll have a nicely blasted clean and repainted set of stds spare with a set of mig end cans (save 'em for the next one!)
Front wheel is now in, for reference, anyone needing a front wheel for the zxr front swap, the zx6r one is the same ( not certain if this applies to all models, will try to find out).
Got my eye on some 636 forks for this so it may change again in the near future.
Oh, yeah the mention of the szr660 swinger in an earlier post, got one of them coming as well, couldn't knock it back at £35!

Bodywork on both will be std ish.scooble wrote:with an SZR swingarm and 636 forks, that is going to look really trick. Any ideas on how you will do the bodywork, will it be standard, or from an alternate bike?
Re the 636 forks, done a bit of research though not exhaustive, looks and I've not done any measuring myself yet, that the 636 forks go straight into zxr400l yokes and for those of us who have 400h yokes if you get them opened out by 1mm they fit straight in. Not sure about wheels, spindles etc yet.

I was going to spray mine satin black myself, but powder as I can see would be a better job. How much masking did you have to do yourself & how much ?£ for the complete engine.

Didn't have to do any masking, they do it all for you, it's not cheap at Triple S, but it is good, top end all that you see plus reed mounts was £100+vat. Crancases don't know yet but think they're listed at £60 on their site.alanw wrote:I was going to spray mine satin black myself, but powder as I can see would be a better job. Yeah I could have done it with a rattle can of PJ1 for a fraction of the price, but it always ends up marked. Priced up vapour blasting of top end and that was around £85. So you pays yer money....
