i got my crank rebuilt in september by grampian of liverpool, the kr cranks have a habit of knackering the centre shaft because when they were made the material wasn't hard enough and the interference fit on the webs and bearings wasn't good enough apparently, bdk do a replacement centre shaft, i think its around 55 quid if i remember correctly, it cost me about 330 quid to get the whole job done with new rods, bearings etc. i would definitely have ago at filling the cases with jb weld or similar while your saving up for the crank to get done, supposed to give a good gain across the range, have a read of this
viewtopic.php?t=4989&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 really helped me

Right I've done it the cases have gone to be vapour blasted.Had to I've tried every means chemical and mechanical at my disposal and they still look crap,so they've gone.
Now then when they come back and the garage warms up I want to repaint the outer cases,am I right in thinking its clutch, inner and outer, waterpump cover, res chambers that were painted.many thanks.
Start saving for the crank rebuild now

Maccas thats all interesting stuff. The rebuild fund has enough wedge in it for the vapour blasting and a bit more after that then things will come to a standstill for awhile.I might well do some work on the cases its not something I'm familar with but I know someone who can help, thanks Paul
Is this what we're talking about

Ade the lads in Kawasaki Newcastle told me about this chap in North shields(new york) and a few folk on the hill recomended him too.I went up to see him today but took the cases with me.He has a restoration buisness offering full or part restoration services.I was impressed by the work he had done so I left them with him. He's done a mint Z1 a Gs1000 and a customers GSX1100 was in the shop to.I'll know better when I get them back but he is close and a proper enthusiast. He should have a website he's done some cracking bikes

Hey Pabs, why don't you fit some bobbins to the swingarm like on my swinger ?
The holes are already there and you won't risk scratching the finish on yer swinger even with rubber pads.

Two reasons HC,first is it was easier on the pads to get at the back end caliper, mount, torque arm etc then I thought I'd put the bobbins in

Turns out one thread is good other one is'nt

and as it had been to the powder coaters, new bearings, sleeves, fitted and refitted and refitted I just thought B******s it can stay where it is.

Help

I went out to the garage yesterday to take the rear wheel out of the Z1b,it needs a new tyre.
When I'd finished I had a look at the KR1S and thought I really have to get back at it,when I noticed the paint on both front discs and one front caliper had developed a "spiders web" pattern in the paint

I know it was OK last week cos one of my mates was inspecting it,and why is one front caliper, the rear caliper and the torque arm OK

The only hazardous chemicals that have been near the bikes has been Stella and Kronenbourg

So whats gone wrong there I don't know
Anyway can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable, good colour matched paint for the job in hand cos today I will be stripping the discs calipers etc and listening to the proclaimers

I thinck your KR must be a beer-expert and the Kronenbourg caused it

After a long lay off I managed to make a bit of progress with the Kr1S yesterday
A while ago I stripped and repainted the front calipers and discs, again

Refitted the discs, but I,ve still to rebuild and refit the calipers.
Finally started rebuilding the motor.I've had the cases back from the aqua blaster since January. I must have had the recon crank back since July, ish,a bag of new seals bearings etc and replated fasteners from about the same time.
I still need to get the barrells replated but I've been spending project money on the ELR,buying stuff that I know I will need when the time comes to restore that. What do you do tho

when stuff come up sometimes you have to dive in
The bottom end is just about done and hopefully funds will soon be available to do the top end.
Interest renewed

The cases look fantastic. I think I'll have to put some money aside to have mine done.
I should stop look at other peoples projects. My wallet screams everytome I see someone elses bike and go "hey I want thar done!"

Thats what happens to me too

But our cases were particularly horrible and I tried allsorts to get them cleaned up,with no luck so off they went and I'm pleased with the results.
Howie I suppose I should pull my finger out and aim for a spring MOT at least.
