Will do. I'm hoping they're only a couple of weeks away now, so shouldn't be too long. I guess Jan will check in on them again at the end of next week, so we'll probably have a better idea on timing by then.

Re: Final KR Based Race Bike Project
I've been busy with work lately, so progress has been slow.
I have been working on the exhausts, but they are still in pieces at the moment, with only the seams welded together.
I needed to get some work done on my barrels before they are sent for replate, one of the jobs is the KIPS seals to accommodate the new cylinder head (thanks to Jan for all his time and effort on that project).
Also with the power I expect to be getting from this engine, the barrels need reinforcement, otherwise they simply can't handle the extra 30% in power increase and crack.
Mark Jordan used a brace on the backs of the barrels to help compensate for this weakness, but I've also seen them crack around the front.
On mine I've added welds around the weak areas as well as copying Mark and welding bracing plates across the back of the barrels.
I imagine the barrels will be complete and ready to fit to the bike by the end of July, where it will all start coming together.

Re: Final KR Based Race Bike Project
Seen that a few times to strengthen the barrels... Looking good!
Ok ok .. But I cant help myself - I need to ask a daft question.. some of the info on the net suggests sleeving the barrels would make them less likely to crack?
Is this the case Ben? Or do the cons outweigh the pros..

I'm not too up on sleeving , so don't know about their properties and adding strength back in the barrels. As I understood it, plating offers lower frictional properties and therefore produces better power, over sleeves.

Re: Final KR Based Race Bike Project
Probably true ?..
If the cast iron liner was ceramic plated, would that not mimic, equal or better the nicasil?
I thought ceramic had less friction and is harder than nicosil, of course I may just be talking poppycock

Ben,
I'd suggest when you get the barrels plated to ask them not to dress the ports. They will end up putting a huge chamfer on them and/or cock up your port timings. Their finishing is always a bit slap dash. Just a warning. Better to get someone with the correct tools who knows what spec you are looking to maintain to do the final work.

Re: Final KR Based Race Bike Project
Ceramic plating I believe is better Shaun. There are only 2 platers in this country, so I'm using Aptec.
I will dress the ports myself Dan, exactly for that reason. I'm not sending them for plating just yet, but I have had a conversation with Aptec already. They said it's not a problem and they wouldn't dress them. I've written specific instructions for them already.
