Think it was Ian who'd found him outwith ebay.

I presume he has a complete bike 'kit' on record - I was only after fairing stuff, and he didn't need any dimensions or anything.

He'd emailed me to say he'd received payment, I said great, just let me know when it's posted ............... they're in the envelope was the reply =D> =D>

Had a couple of hours in the garage today, and was it cold.I had to put the fan heater on,and after what happened to Tommy I unplugged it every time I went to the loo.Just in case 8-[

Dismantelled the fuel filler cap to clean it, and paint the cap. What a fiddly little job that was.I've never had one of these apart before. They're full of tiny springs ball bearings and rods. It'd be dead easy to loose some stuff.

Anyway if I can get the garage warm enough tomorrow I'll paint it.

hey there, great build. I love the attention to detail. Im about to start a ground up rebuild of my own KR-1s. I like the idea of powder coating, did you just ask for metallic silver or is there a specific type of silver used? how close to original is the finish?

I'm not sure my eyes are up to it Jan  I was hard enough to see the wee bits n pieces in the cap

Thanks Steve. The powder coaters I used had done a lot of work for a friend of mine and they are bikers too so they have a good idea of whats required.

I just took the frame in and asked then to match it.There were a few different silver/grey colours but I can't remember which one they used.
I had considered having the frame painted but went for powder coat after wieghing up the pros and cons.

I had another KR1s frame in the garage and the colour was spot on but the finish was a wee bit on the shiney side.I know some people recoil at the thought of powder coat and the rivet counters will no doubt pick up on it but I'm happy and so is the wife cos it'll be her bike :D

Welcome to the forum Steve you will find lots of help and inspiration on here and good luck with the rebuild.

Done that Jan.No comparison. Not one drip of stray brake fluid, and instant pressure.31 english pounds well spent.

I managed a few hours in a freezing cold garage today and got the motor finished.I picked up a few bits and pieces from Kawasaki Newcastle yesterday.Head gasket, exhaust studs and KIPS linkage rods.. :D Head bolts courtesy of Martin

Image

A friend called round so I enlisted his help to get the motor into the frame.

I was hoping to get a wee bit more done but my wee fan heater just is'nt cutting it.It was Baltic.Still a bit more progress :D

And I got a nice set of fork tops fitted. Thanks Bernie =D>

You must be well made up with that Pablo, looks fantastic =D>

I put stainless allen bolts on my original engine, I think i'll have them off & pop the originals back in, they look better I think.

That's looking very good mate, what was the problem with the piston in the end, or did I miss that somewhere. Did you get all the original bolts replated or buy new ones?

Hi Paul,
It is looking really good, the pictures dont do justice to the standard of your renovation (or give any indication of just how cold it is in your garage with a foot of snow outside).
You deserve an award....keep up the good work =D>
