Front wheel bearing seating depth

Just fitted new front wheel bearings. Spacer side first - fitted it tight into seating - then fitted spacer tube and speedo drive side bearing. In doing so I think I may have knocked the spacer side bearing back off its seating.

Has anyone a loose wheel handy with bearings in that they can pop a vernier on? I need a reference depth for the speedo drive side bearing. As presently fitted the distance from the face of the bearing outer race to the outside of the wheel hub is 11.25mm.

As it is the speedo drive will not sit correctly to the bearing inner race when the speedo drive adaptor and circlip is fitted so I suspect the bearings may not be in the correct position.

Just measured my spare wheel & it's 12.50mm seems you need to drive it in a bit more :? is the spacer still loose

Cheers for the info - 1.25mm difference.

The spacer tube is tight so that now has me a bit baffled.

All was fine before I dismantled for a wheel re-spray and there's no paint anywhere near the bearing seating and the new bearings are the correct size.

Is your speedo drive adaptor tight to the circlip when fitted or is there any play?

Solved it :D :D . It was the speedo drive adaptor not seating fully into the speedo drive unit.

Tricky little bugg*r to fit the adaptor just spins in the drive unit and drags the gear with it so not easy to get the dogs lined up. :D

Just like our dogs you can never get the sods to do what you want
