the kx 125 rods you can use are from 1978-1987 1992-1993.

The rods for the 88 model are still available from Kawasaki, but I think the later ones are NLA.

They wouldn't have skipped anything and I know nothing on the subject, but it seems likely they decided to try something different, found it didn't work as well, so reverted to what they were doing before.
That's my logic anyway.

I used genuine KX125J1 (1992, Part No. 13032-1189) conrods on the last crankshaft I had built. I bought them from:
http://www.nosparts.se/ - still showing 21 in stock!
From memory, I think they were about US$50 each (rod only - no bearings or thrust washers). The dimensions are identical to the original KR-1 rod but at 158g they are slightly heavier (originals are 133g) - I'm hoping that the lighter pistons will provide some offset!
Regards,
James

"Long" brand conrods are usually sold under the Pro-X banner. I've used several Long brand Yamaha rods before (although not in a KR-1) and never had trouble. They are made in Japan and seem to be good quality. The big end bearings supplied with the Long Yamaha RD400 rod kits were a bit basic (nothing really wrong with them though) and higher-spec ones with a greater number of rollers are available from the Pro-X catalogue. The Kawasaki big end bearing is a different size to the Yamaha one, but you could research these Pro-X bearings (from notes I made ages ago):
22.222917 (14 rollers?)
22.222917F (16 rollers?)
