Is it a JDM or an authentic Australian market import?

Do some Australian bikes have 17 digit vins? Is there a year cut off?

I think that bikes up to and including 1988 just have "normal" chassis numbers. From 1989, extra letters were added to show country of manufacture (J for Japan), name of manufacturer (K for Kawasaki) and some other details too I believe. However, as far as I know (I've never owned a bike later than 1988), these extra letters are just added to the beginning of the "normal" chassis number. If anyone knows different, please tell us!pepsi wrote:Do some Australian bikes have 17 digit vins? Is there a year cut off?
