Leaking coolant

Hi all

There is coolant dripping of the bottom of the pump and on closer expectation it seems to be coming out of the small hole next to the coolant drain plug.

I have been told this is a fail safe mechanism to stop water entering the crank or something.

Was just wondering how tricky it is to remove right hand side of engine, replacing this gasket and if this is quite a common problem?

Thanks

Can you post a pic, dont think there is a fail safe! its common for them to leak on the front coolant pipe the metal one as its only sealed with an o ring, either way you still need to take that case off.

easy peasy,

Drain the G box oil on the sproket side.
take the clutch cover off!
remove the push mechanisum there is a large circlip that holds the clutch in, take that off and remove the clutch,
you see a washer, line it up with the spline and take it off now the inner basket will come off.
losen the outer casing, (obviosly remove kick start and water hose first)
once lose youll need to be patiant and slowly easy the case off, be carefull as your pulling it over the kicksatrt spline and the front water pump seal..

You should then be in a posistion to see whats casued the leak I rekon itll be the O ring!

If i have missed anything someone will chip in...

But in general its all common sense and easy to see what to do next!

Yep its the water pump seal thats failed and yes there is a fail safe drain to stop the water entering the crank and you have just found it :D . Engine cover off is easy as RC46 explained.

To save draining the oil lean the bike over and rest the footrest on top of a tool box. the oil then drains to the other side of the gearbox and it'll save replaceing it. However if the oil is old drain it and replace it.
