Aftermarket coil question.

Post by stevo135+ »

Hi all.

I've been told by my exhaust builder, that it might be worth looking at an aftermarket more powerful HT coil to use with my Ignitec programmable ignition on my KMX 125.

The coil on it now is just an OEM one that was new 2years ago. The primary resistance is around 0.20ohms, but I've been told I can use a coil with a slightly higher primary resistance though?

What would people recommend to buy coil wise for my ignition set up. As it's only one coil I need I'm happy to pay for quality and something that will maybe help produce a stronger spark than standard?

Ignitec, have said it's OK to use the OEM coil with their ignition, but if there's any advantage to a performance aftermarket coil then I'm happy to fit one.

Lastly is it best to run a new direct earth wire to the battery for an aftermarket coil?

Thanks.

I've fitted a Nology coil (haven't tested yet as the engine is still away),
see details here
