Hi folks, first post and I've got a heap to restore

Question 1, the exhausts are rusty as hell. I can get em blasted to clean up but they will need recoating. There's the aerosol VHT option of course but that looks pants. Does anyone have experience of good durable coatings?

Cheers mate, I'll grant you PJ1 is probably the best of the aerosols but it's still nothing like a proper professional job.....

Trouble is the platers won't touch them once they've run in case they contaminate their vats and in any case these are pitted and would look awful.

Do you get this PJ1-Stuff also in hardware stores in the UK? Then I'd try to get hold of 1-2 cans next month.

i looked into getting mine black chromed again.....i got a quote around 160 plus vat each...ouch!

tin of stove bright works a treat !!!

Simply spray on... nice matt black finish...

i think for what its worth the aerosols are the best option as long as prep is carried out properl and plenty of even coats added. not as good wearing as black chrome but good enough i suppose. better option, though not a cheap one would be some shiny new lomas pipes as mj has just got his mits on!! god, they do look nice.

Not used them myself, have been tempted in the past. Think I'll go down the stainless route myself next. Always used plastikote bbq paint myself. Normally get them blasted and spray with the plastikote stuff, lasts very well and has a nice stain sheen rather than the usual very matt/grey black colour of normal high temp paints.

i had mine shot blasted then stove enamelled. they look great, really glossy
