Ram Air box...ImageImageImage

It works by reverse ram air ...using the stock box plus pipercross...the pressure only alters at high revs... and then the ram air tubes suck more air as required fresh and clean..pulls like a train...and the roar...Yahoo.. the ram air side tube sit under the coolant tank neatly out of the way..and oil...but i junked the oil one for premix..

have a look ..its different  and it works...

Ps i Modified the carb to fit the flexi adjuster...for tick over nice touch eh..proud of that...

well flip me if I'm wrong, but that's no way near a ram-air system

ca it what you will but i have seen rgv racers use similar methods, most make over 60hp although nothing close in midrange to our lovely wee kr1/1s. my approach to the ram air/airbox will be diffrent to above, more like elfs. id describe wakasaki's as a cold air feed. the carbs/reeds look very pretty wakasaki, how did you obtain rubbers? are they kr1r ones? what size is the diameter of the tube that feed your airbox? rgv site will have plenty of tips on similar setup.

Nice carb set up mate,

that monstrous ram air system is just one i picked up off danny to have a play with:D

So does the airbox have an inlet/filter as normal ?
are the filters in the box designed to supply a restricted flow at low revs
also you have decreased the airbox volume by quite a bit,
so the reverse ram air will come into play quite early as the airbox will struggle to supply the 35mm carbs, with such a small volume...

the worry being that if you create too small a pressure difference ie if the airbox cannot supply the initail charge of air this could create a small vacuum which in turn will effect the opening of your reed valves that are designed to open at a certain px difference,

i like the idea tho, makes sense and i think with a larger volume airbox would work well.

I have thought of a similar idea using an enlarged airbox plus a set of reed valves that would allow a greater flow of air into the box when reqd.
this would help keep a constant pressure in the box as well, which greatly improves carburetion

It may look restrictive the pic makes it look out of measure.....But it isnt...the ramair filters are great breathers and the two pipes are very open on the side...there there for pull at high revs...i have stock pipercross in... so really the engine is kidded into thinking that all is ok...because the air zooms at high pull...if they were always open the thing would gulp air...like having no reed valves.. its cunning....and it works...

Matt, if you look closer at the pics, youll see that they're cut & shut carb rubbers like many others on here have done.

So I assume that this means that you have some sort of reed valve setup on your extra side air intakes. :?: If so, what did you use and where is it fitted in the intake?
Looks pretty neat and tidy too.

Cheers, Scott.

No RGV's I am aware of use RAM air in it's real sense, yes they may have a more direct cold air feed like wakasaki's.

RAM air is very hard to set up for and jet as it is a lot more sensitive to ambient conditions. It's do-able but the gains on such a low powered bike on short UK circuits would make it more trouble than it's worth IMHO. I am sure it has no GOOD effect until you are well over 100MPH.

It's obvious why as you have different air pressure in the box at low speed to high speed.

Nearly all the RGV racers have an open air box so it would be hard to pressurise it, could explain global warming though.

Mine looks very simular to Corky's but with a plastic tube but again of a simular size. I ain't seen the original pics of Wasasaki's as they have disappeared

there's nothing to see, 'cause he doesn't have ram air :?

the only thing he has done is changed the entrance of the airbox from under the tank were it gets hot air, to the side off the bike to get fresh air

lol Nate.. a genious move that with Waks pics :) I take it you saved them and uploaded to your photobucket because you knew Waks has a habit of removing them and destroying the content of the forum :) ?? ?
