Does anyone have a link as to what i need to take the front spindle in and out?

Is there a special tool i need

think its best to use a socketed allen key.... 15/17mm rings a bell.

I have found the cheapest way to do it is to just buy 2 x 12mm oil drain plug sockets (as ideally you need one each side). £3.99 each from Halfords or you can buy a Halfords own brand 12mm hex socket @ £7.99 each....obviously more expensive but if your planning to do a lot of wheel removal then more likely to last longer....

Don't know if you've already sorted this yet...
But I can confirm it's 12mm hex driver. You only need 1 of them as you use the axle pinch bolts on the fork leg to hold whichever side you're not undoing (remember to slacken the pinch bolts on the side you are undoing!).
I brought a draper item from a not special motor factors place (wilko etc - just not halfords unless it's sunday afternoon) on a 3/8 inch drive which set me back a whole two english pounds!
