Crankshaft seals

Hi folks.

After reading horror stories of crankshaft seals going, and my bike sitting un-run for way too long, I am going to change them as a precaution.

Just about to split the crank cases, but I've not seen an engine like this before - a couple of things confuse me ;-

1 How does the primary gear come off ?
2 If the balancer shaft runs in gear oil - are there crank seals on the inside as well, ie 4 all together ?
3 Do you have to get the crank re-built in order to replace the seals ?

Everything else I've had only has a seal at either end.

Another good reason for changing them is I found the missing piece of this clutch plate thing floating around in the gearbox.........very chewed up.

Thanks,

Tambo

Number three answers one and two anyway

That'll be the budget blown then............... Bearings look fine on it, but I had to strip it right down to get that bit metal out, so it's not worth the risk.

Oh well, the engine will be sweet, the rest of it will look like a shed

Cheers.

Just got my crankshaft back, fully re-built, from Grampian £215 including vat, delivery etc. I got it done through my local 'friendly' bike shop, as I think they are trade only.

Been assured it's a good price, but at least it gives you a reference for shopping about.
