well guys another couple a things i could do with a bit of advice on,before taking the bike out tonight checked oil and put half litre in and still wasnt full

took bike out and its gone and spewed all the oil outta engine breather pipe

lucky really as it went all over tyre

anyhow as soon as i stopped at home could smell burning so switched it off and by it was rather hot(temp gauge normal)smoke was coming outta left exhaust as if it was decoking itself.filled it up with oil and now when its running i carnt select neutral, took it round the block and its only when you give it a bit that it starts blowing oil out, what would be your thoughts then fellas?

sounds like crank seals. not the end of the world. BDK will do you proud at a reasonable price and quick turnaround. ihear mixed stories about S.E.P but i have one of there cranks and its held together with no probs. i think any leading crank builders will do you service. have you measured and drained the g'box oil?

not measured but filled till its center of sight glass, the engine came from a catagory wotsit insurance right off so dont know how long its been stood.why would the temp gauge show normal though as i recon it was well hot even burnt me hand on exhaust can

Def the crank seals. As mat says strip the engine down and send the crank to BDK.

Its sucking the gearbox oil into the engine as well as pressurising the gearbox and blowing it out the vent as the engine turns over. The oil thats sucked into the crank case burns very slow compared to petrol so will continue to burn in the exhausts. The temp gauge is reading the water temp which would still be normal.

thats what i thought charles but i think i may let him try

on cars though the man is superb other mechanics send stuff to him when they carnt do it and he just gets it done topbloke

if as i suspect it is not poss then out comes the crank win win situation

Send it to mr "bung" he's done loads of these & will spot any other faults your mechanic might miss? Will work out cheaper in the long run
I stripped my first engine to get at the crank & every thing I took of was to get at the crank! "look under ENGINE STRIP" in this forum, the crank came to £159.39 inc 1 tube of h***a bond sealant (recomended by Graham File) & postage this was for seals only & not bearings at BDK

Yes can be done with the use of a sledge hammer

trouble is you will need a new crankcase.
Nope the crank cases need splitting. as even the outer seals sit in the case and you need to pull the crank apart to change three of the seals and a special jig and press to reassembly it. As it's burning oil it'll be one of the inner seals anyway.

kwak i would love to send it to mr bung but am pretty sure he aint opened a charity shop

and the 2 accounts are over drafted out

luckily in the times a plenty ended up with 4 engines so ok with the spares, flogging some bodywork so have got another engine freed up cause am gonna sell rest in bits

think i may be selling mine as well if things dont pick up soon

will still have enough to build a track hound though with a farnham tuned engine

well what a few days

krs hey

worse than mrs

changed the engine over on wed(raining all tues)took it out and did 40ish mile.seemed like it was struggling to hold speed lower down the revs(below 6ish)and didnt feel as strong as the one it replaced.could smell something burning so pulled in to burgerking

front disc well hot(calipers sticking).gets up today changed calipers and changed reed valves cause i thought that was why it struggled at low revs, bleeding the brakes and then pop, last one snapped bleed nipple

got some braking power anyhow and went out,run alright then started to splutter,no probs onto reserve.then gave it some knuckle and it semp to splutter from 9-10ish and woudnt rev past with any power

filled up(kawi dont do far on reserve

)and at garage was a fella on a right nice 05 kawi(looked like a proper race bike not a636 or owt)sets off from garage and gives it a fist full to show um little 250s can go,no problem

coming outta barnsley steady cause the cops are always there and the shit comes past me,so off i goes and follows him for a few mile.gets to next garage and theres a couple more(gixer and a636)as we come off roundabout hes steady away waiting for his mates so takes him and lorry hes behind and mi bike wouldnt go past 9 thou

carnt get it above 75mph

luckily i think they just wanted to see what bike it was so they didnt pass me.thought i had better head home as all is certainly not well

just kept getting worse in ten mile i ended up struggling to hold 5thou revs in 2nd not good.it would cut out when i stopped but then it would be ok upto 6 thou or so then shit again

when i got home it was smoking(not loads)outta the left pot more than the right and when i did manage to rev it it looked like it blew some smoke outta the kips valve seal

any way put the bob farnham engine in tonight, and am gonna clean the carbs out but its just pissed down so will have to finish off tommorow, phew to cut a short story long any thoughts would be apprieciated
