Which Plugs???

Hello Chaps,
I want to put a new set of plugs into my (pretty much standard) 1S .
So i was wondering wether to go for either plain NGK stuff or something a little more 'Exotic' like Iriduim or Splitfire types?
Any ideas??
Also, what do i need to do to balance the carbs with a vacuum guage - the manual seems a little short on advice on where to plug in/set up and what they should be reading???
Many thanks, Kris.

I've used both Iridium NGK R BR10EG and NGK B10EV without problems. Spitfire plugs need more voltage than is availalble from the standard coil and/or CDI. I use Spitfire's but I am running a Zeeltronic programable ignition which produces a far bigger voltage from the CDI.
As for balancing the carbs, search for a post from RC45 which details how to do it. If you remove the airbox you can feel the slides in the carbs with your fingers and its basically involves adjusting the cables so they both open at the same time and are both open the same amount.

Hi Elf,
Thanks for the advice on the plugs - the Iridium ones are the ones for me i think, ta!
As for the carb set up - i have already adjusted the cables so the slides move at the same time (As per manual) but i was more in thinking of getting the actual carbs balanced on tickover.
I've found that blindly playing with the airscrews on each carb causes one exhaust header pipe to run hotter than the other and once played with then does vice verse with the temp on the other pipe.....???
THE FLUTE had a blog on using a infared thermometer to even out the temperature which he said works well, which i could do.
However, as i managed to get my hands on a set of vacuum guages i was going to use them but don't really know what to do with them to get an accurate or correct reading - is it worth doing this??
Thanks again, Kris

Try to find a cable adjuster from a spare carb, screw this into the carb with the unable to reach adjustment screw. The other end can be fed out through the hole in the frame on the opposite side. No more removing tanks, or playing about with impossible to reach screws. It allows you to adjust the mixture at anytime, even when out and about, you will then get it spot on.
Hope you can find one though.

You don't use or need vaccuum gauges on a 2 stroke. Just stand the gauges on the clocks while you adjust the cables if you want people to think you're crazy
Getting both the slides to mid way open at the same as the throttle is mid way is balancing the carbs. I'm pretty sure your oil pump should be adjusted to match at this point to.

Yep, it's a belting little mod, you know how only one carb has the long adjuster that comes out on the lefthand side, nick one of another set of carbs and stick it on the on the other carb and feed it out to the same place. Means you're not pissing about with the tank off to get at the carb without one (originally).

Gary. I meant the idle adjustment screw/toggle. As Red explained.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Cliff that sounds a good idea and obvoiusly it works cos you and RED have used it.
All i need to do now is find one......
Im sure in the manual it does say to use vacuum guages but like i explained it did'nt go into detail - who knows, i did read that particular section after a heavy night on the sauce.......
Anyway thanks again!!!!
Kris.
