left plug is darker than the right one , right one is just right, [i know the carbs are ok. new jets and correct float heights and all adjusted ok,] swapped the ht leads around with no difference [so know its more than likely not the coil] new pick up coil on the bike. even tryed swapping the carbs over, the left pipe does seem to smoke more,[not crankseals as engine only just been rebuilt and after 800miles,still 850mls of oil in gearbox, also had the head off and no problems there, so was wondering if it is the stator,

impossible : since both cylinders always fire at the same time . if one works ok, than the stator is automatically ok for both

Agree with Jan about the stator.
If youve ruled out the carbs, crank-seals etc, the only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is maybe the left cylender is getting more 2T oil than the right.

2t fine. i have just ordered a new coil from wemoto. maybe its a intermitant spark and hard to notice,

I must agree with the info..
If the coils were running off then
as the system uses a wasted spark
then if one side works when the
coil is switched ..then its not the
stator..as if this was happening
it would be very noticible up the rev
range..with spluttering...
it is quiet common to have varied
shades on your plugs
from a grey to a light brown to
a dark brown...
they usually look like a biscuit digestive
colour..
but two strokes hate the weather
unless its warm....
so unless the performance is off...
and the left is running slightly rich
which i think it is not...
then....all should ok..
as discussed the left has
the further points for oil
2 stroke... and heat..transfer..
so unless the exhaust is bunged up..
then a slight variation is not
uncommon...

Sounds like it could be an air leak causing the RHS cylinder to run a tad weak compared to the other.

Check the rubbers, reeds, reed cases and gaskets. The other posiability is that the crankcases are not sealed together fully and you have a leak between the two halves on one side.

dont like the sound of crankcases not sealed together, had another closer look and am sure its the coil, both air screws one and a quater turns out, carbs and jets and float heights spot on, dont think i,ve got a air leak on the rubbers as the right plug is a nice digestive biscuit colour, if i change the leads around,the right plug goes lighter.[so maybe the left lead is,nt firing correctly] i must admit for a long time i was playing about with the air scews and they was only three quaters of a turn out, so am guessing that the pilot setting was bunging everything up, that with the left side not firing correctly, there must be loads of crap still on the left side the left plug runs a bit darker than the right one[with the right lead,] but runs alot lighter with the left lead, the bike smokes a bit more on the left when cold,but goes away when warm. maybe because of the build up from not firing right or could it be from being parked on the side stand[any fuel/oil runs to that side when parked, new coil coming tomorrow
