Hi , i am trying to get hold of a second hand steering damper for by beloved kr1s race bike, does any body know what legnth the damper is/, i know the fork size for the bracket is 41mm.

There are two different types depending on if you've got the Kawasaki bracket or not? Mine is the long type (the longest that Ohlins make) and mounts directly to the screw thread on the frame

Hi there, do you by any chance no the damper legnth, say the when the damper is compressed or fully adjusted?

Hi, thanks for the link,how do i measure the damper to find out what the measurement is?, is it from either side of the main cylinder or is it the legnth of the damper from tip to toe?

it needs to have a stroke of 140mm, that's the only real thing that matters

Have you got the Kwack steering damper bracket?

No i have no brackets at all. the 1st practice is next wednsday at mallory and im racing on 1st march and i have nothing yet ( not even rode the bike...yikes!):( so keeping my eye out on ebay.ive got a track kr1s which is standard ( i will post the photos on here if i can ever work it out how to do it ) and rode it at mallory park last september and i decided to over take this gsxr600 ( k4 ) coming up through the left hander of the esses and had the most biggest ever head shake ive ever had ( been riding and crashing...lol.for 18years now)nearly pooped my pants so i figure the kr1s is a little light on the front end, hence i feel i need a steering damper...

Hi, Mine is mounted without the Kwack bracket





And to do it this way you need the longest Steering damper available. I got an Ohlins one, so just check on there web site and look at the biggest one available and get something simular. You then need to order the correct fork leg clamp, the mounting bracket that came with the Ohlins damper was a straight fit to my frame IIRC>

Thanks for the info, i see you have some special forks in your kr, what kind are they?

They are a set of ZXR 400 forks off the J model (the SP version of the H model) with ohlins internals. The internals were a one off special, sorted out by Russ at Mick Gardner racing, basically they are copies of the original Ohlins Kit, where he could find the info and pure sweat and tears and hard work when he had to guess the missing dimensions etc. Took us a bit of hard work but we got there. Even the standard ZXR forks are miles better than the standard KR1S.



Here is a general view although its a tad old as she has Lomas exhausts and SV1000 calipers now as well as a few other changes, but atleast you can see the whole of the forks.



Its an easy mod and IMVHO well worth it over standard forks. You then just need to get a RGV VJ22 17" rear and jack the rear up with a decent shock and shorter tie bars and the KR handles like a dream.

Wow! thats a big cnversion you got there!, would it have been easier to buy a rgv? or is it better handling than a vj22?.

The only real RGV parts are the swing arm, swing arm spindle and rear wheel spindle.The rear wheel is a dymag 5" jobbie. Went for the RGV swinger for two reasons , its stiffer than the KR one but heavier and it looks nice. Yes I race it when I can get the time off work, with Derby Phoenix.

Hi elf, a little birdie told me you have 35mm carbs on oyur kr1, where do you find such things?, are they the kr1s sp carbs of the japanese race version?
