Question re 3XV TZR250.

Post by Gerrit » Tue Aug 28, 2018 4:50 pm

Does any of you who owns a 3XV TZR250 (or later 4DP, 4TW or 5KE TZ250) have a swingarm bearing sleeve, part No. 3XV-22184-00 lying around which can be measured? I need the following dimensions:

Overall length
Inner diameter (= OD of swingarm pivot shaft)
Outer diameter (= ID of needle bearings)
Length of bearing surfaces for needle bearings
Outer diameter of waisted section.

HI Gerrit,

I can't help you on the dimensions, but if you have no luck here

TZR forum - as with here, there are some very helpful people - some are the same people as here :P
I used to be undecided, but now I am not so sure.

Thanks for the tip, dmac. I'll certainly check out that site!

Thanks to a friendly member of the TZR board I have the required dimensions, but unfortunately my idea of using the TZR sleeve as a lightweight replacement for the KR-1S part is not on. Target weight for my KR project is the dry weight of the last TZ250s, 102-104 kg and to get anywhere near that will require every single part to be examined for possible weight reduction. The KR sleeve weighs a ton (502 g according to my digital kitchen scales) and is a prime candidate for slashing its weight. As it's nitrided this means grinding which is time-consuming and pricey, but unfortunately there's no alternative.

have one turned in aluminium
You know it's cold outside when you trip over dog shit instead of standing in it.

Won't work, Jan- the swingarm needle bearings run directly on the nitrided sleeve and aluminium is simply unsuitable as an inner race.

have one turned in alu with pressed on sleeves for, the bearrings.
or use different bearrings and an aluminium spacer between them, just like in wheels.
