Facebook has its place with the ease of posting and photos.. but given a hard choice - I would choose these forums first
If it takes more than 2strokes then your just playing at it..

Hi Danny,
I'm trying to redirect as many people as I can to this forum. I am sure that once they see the standard of the content here, there may eventually be a resurgence in the forum use.
Nice photo

One of the main issues with forums is the image hosting element.
Old threads tend to have lost their images for various reasons.

Not sure what the solution is to getting traffic generated back here though.

I always thought a skin gave a forum its identity and then the way topics are grouped and the ability to search for information make them unique to what Facebook can do.

I know Bernie is trying to get access to the back end of this site from Al, so he can update the forum engine and restore a skin to it, but he has had no luck.

I don't have any Facebook access through choice, but can only think of peple that do, is just encouraging people using it, to post their questions or projects here as well and other than that vito it in the sense of posting any material.

Just looking at who is online and there are currently 43 guests online.

Perhaps one way to generate more activity is to restrict what guests can actually see. This might force some to sign up and start getting more involved.

Any thoughts on this approach guys?

I agree with what you say about guests Ben
Every time I log on it seems it all guests and me.
I have been like a lot of people going on Facebook but as bernie has
Said. Even I have started to tell people to find out things from the forum.

From now on. When people start asking things I am going to start posting up a link

The only thing is this can put even more people off.

A lot of 'lurkers' probably don't even have KR's - they are probably interested, thinking of buying or just browsing

I look at a few different bike forums and i know having to have a login puts me off straightaway - i am unlikely to contribute so
don't sign up (even though i may be interested in the content)

Just my thoughts

Anyway Bernie well done for trying to give it a kick start 8)

You don't lock it down completely, just the bulk of stuff so they can see some things and not all. I would say it's worth trying and if it doesn't generate anymore interest or signups, Bernie could always put it back to how it is today. My thinking is, they might sign up to see, or learn more and end up contributing.

Nothing ventured nothing gained as far as I see it.

Worth a try Ben, I will have a look at the Admin page tonight and see if I can see where it may be controlled from.

I like the fact the forum is ALL open and accessible apart from the Rude Stuff section that is hidden unless logged in

top left of page is Quick Links drop down
but what does Active Topics supposed to display?

unfortunalety there could be more than one new topic in each section but only the most recent one is displayed on the front Board Index page
index.php

also
theres 20 pages ! of unanswered Topics - probably many of these could be deleted
search.php?search_id=unanswered

such as
KR-1s Swing Arm Sun, 20 May 2018
Any of you folk out there got a decent swing arm and shocker for sale for KR1s

Hi Danny
Another gem of information that most of us had missed.
I am going to log out and have a look to see just what a guest visitor sees.
Cheers

You can do that from the ACP on preview in the group permissions. I'll Facebook message you when I am not being harangued by every man and their dog. Usually around 11 things calm down.
