another forking convertion LOL

Post by kinkyfreestyler » Wed Jun 05, 2019 12:55 am

Hi could some one please tell me the full extended length of a kr1 fork ,top to centre of the axle , thanks .

I have done a swop for a set of zxr 400 l forks and can't remember the length of the originals ! its so I can get a base setting for how much I need to slip through the top yoke.

Also what amount do you have popping out the top yoke ? I know what the manual says , but most of you will have strayed from that , so what do YOU run ?

thanks guys

722 mm, coincidentally (or not so coincidentally) the same as Suzuki RGV250 vj22 fork legs.
"Mine is a long and sad tale", said the mouse.
"Indeed it is", said Alice, looking at the mouse's tail.

The manual says 10mm from top of yolk to top of the fork tube.

I have ZXR400L forks in my KR1 running an RGV swinging arm and 17" back wheel and I've pulled them through the yokes by 10mm to get it to hold a line, but may yet go a little further...

Ah this is a good point and has reminded me why.
I have an R6 rear shock in this bike which raised the rear slightly, even with a 17" VJ22 rear wheel. I must have measured it all at the time (2012) and came up with 8mm for the geometry I desired. Sorry if it's not very helpful.

I left them as they were, as they didn't seem overly stiff for my racing needs.

I'm talking ZXR in this case, not SP though.

TZ looks totally different...

ZXR are Showa, v-twin TZ are Kayaba though look similar externally. On my old TZ I could have the bike stood there with leaky fork seals and within less than an hour it would be back in one piece without leaky seals. With the ZXR forks it's a very different matter, and unfortunately it's a job that now needs doing....
