New project (NOT for the purists. Sorry).

Post by MarkW1966 »

Hello everyone.

Been a lurker for a while and am starting to get things together for my project.

I thought I would chuck it on here in case anyone is interested. Not many left here it seems Faceplant is the place to be but that's no good for an old school project thread.

Anyway. Here is the project brief.

I have a box of bits. Or rather a couple of boxes of bits.

There is a KR1 frame to which I have now fitted an S swing arm.

Engine will be rebuilt. I have a top end with Andy Ball having it machined for a 300cc kit. Carbs will be 34mm and exhausts will be standard S for now (I understand that they are actually really good).

Wheels will be either VJ22 front and rear or VJ22 rear with ZXR400H front (the VJ front would mean a 110 tyre where as the ZXR front would give me the 120 tyre option).

Front end will be ZXR400H forks and brakes with a top yoke for standard sit up bars.

Rear will be the aforementioned swing arm and wheel with a new remote reservoir YSS shock. I will fit shorter drop links to raise the rear to suit the 17" wheel.

Bodywork will be limited to a ZXR front mudguard, standard tank and single rear race unit. This will all be sprayed a nice bright shade of Petronas (or similar) Turquoise.

The frame and arm have been powder coated. I'm looking into cerakote for the forks and engine cases.

So as you can see far from standard. This is for two reasons. Number one is parts availability. Number two is i'm too old to ride a pocket rocket any more. She will live in the house but it will also go out at every opportunity and get thrashed to within an inch of her life.

Hopefully there will be photos here. If not could someone offer some help. I'm using Dropbox.

There have been quite a few really nice unfaired ones done, looking forward to seeing it come together.
The 34PJ carbs are not fantastic. You would be better of with a pair of 35s.
Cheers

After speaking to Andy Ball who’s doing the top end I’m more inclined to retain the 28mm.
