Hi to All.
I have a question i have found a new CDI unit for the kawa.
It has number : 21119-1287 my old one had number : 21119-1234
What's the difference? Engine is running but kips don't open when motor is running at 8.000 RPM it seems kips stay closed. Also the rpm counter doesn't work is that the problem that the kips doesn't know when to open.
Engine seems to hold back at 7.000 RPM and does not go on to the rpm range at the end.
Please help, any solution or should i buy the cdi with the number 21119-1234 ?

Tacho not working is probably the cause. A fault in the tacho could pull the ignition down. Disconnect the tacho and see if the problem goes away.
1234 ignition is KR-1
1287 is KR-1S

Also check the output from the regulator. A common thing for blowing the rev counter along with CDI etc is a faulty regulator which will allow 18V into the bike's electrical system.

Thankx for the advice. We also messured all the wires/cables with the new battery, and came to the conclusion the cdi unit was broken. Our conclusion was correct. I think a bad battery was the problem. All the lightsbulbs where exploded , front , rear, blinkers. Put on the new cdi and two kicks and the engine was running. Replaced all light bulbs and there was light. I think my panel lights are also broken because i have no oil , and free light (red and green). All wires and cables having 12V and go back with negative.
Anyone has a rpm counter for the kawa kr1s 1990 ? and ship to holland?

when all the lights blow, I thinck you better recheck your regulator, before you have to go out for another CDI ...

the instructions on checking the regulater are in the manual. You need to check the voltage at about 4-5K RMP IIRC.

Weekend Repair:
Pulled of cable from rpm counter after previous post this is what we tried:
Engine is still running. Engine kips-valve's turn when you reach the point at 7.500 - 8.000 rpm. When you pull the gas there's no power after 8.000 tpm. Is it possible that maybe the pick up coil is defective?
Tried the old spark plugs - same effect.
Looked at the pick up coil - 1mm space(air gap)
Has a cdi unit (1287 same one as the defective) learn how the engine is running?
The regulator is good, it looks like when you pull full gas the engine is sufficating and you can't pull through, it is not reaching to the 13.000 tpm
I think the cdi unit now on is good, otherwise the engine won't start after two kicks. All lights work, kips engine work, kips valves turns, even the temprature meter works again !.
Anyone have options to check?

do you mean it won't rev to the redline in neutral or when you are riding it under load?
Check the colour of the spark too as a weak spark will still allow then engine to rev, but breakdown under load.
Other things...
A silly thing that happened to me once was I put the sponge air filter underneath the grid, so it fell down and covered the carb inlet - Ok just ticking over, but died as soon as you revved it.
Another silly thing was a partially blocked fuel tap, it was fine just cruising slowly but would soon die after a flat out blast as it used all the fuel in the float bowl. Check you main jets haven't fallen out (also happened to me

)

Scooble :
It doesn't rev in neutral and not when i'm riding. air filter is installed correctly.
Fuel is going out normal, i can see that on my fuel filters before going in the carbarateur.
I don't think the main jet's have been fallen out, because when this all happend(not starting , etc ,etc engine was running perfect.
Anyone other suggestions ?

bit of a long shot, but check that the power valves are operateing the right way. I remember a few people mentioning their powervalve motors operateing backwards (valves open @ idle, and closing when they should open), after CDI failure.
I'm not sure that it would affect the engine running as much as youve been experiencing, but worth a quick look I guess.
Good luck, Scott.

and make sure the Kips/links are installed the right way. (pictures are in the manual).
can you make a soundrecording ? that would tell us most about the problem.

Not reving can be either a failing Stator, pickup coil or HT coil/Leads. If not then it'll have to be fuel related.
