morning gents,
long time since ive posted and this ones a biggy, managed to break a kips wheel at donington in sep, phoned kawasaki to be told item is no longer available, its the kips pulley that sits on the cylinder head, where the cable goes into it it has spread and the cable just falls out. does anybody have any idea where i can get some? or failing that im thinking of getting a batch made up in billet if anybody is interested, will get an idea of cost when i have a rough idea of numbers.
oh the other thing, will kmx200 barrels pistons etc fit, im tired of getting wasted by 600s on track days and need more power, and rather that going banshee engine route thought this may be a viable alternative?
Cheers
Rob

KMX barrels

I do not think they will. KX125 ones do with a bit of buggering about. Troble is the ones wth 56mm bores have the KIPS on one side of the barrel and the operating mechanism on the other, so you cannot fit to with KIPS. This changes in 1992 when they went to a 54mm by 54.5 bore stroke.
According to Wiseco, you can make the 54mm barrel go out to 56, but then you are back where you started. You can get about 2mm out of the std KR barrel, but again a lot of buggering about.

The KMX200 has the reed valve on the back and the same issues as the pre 92 KX barrel and the KDX200/220 barrel.

Sorry not that positive...

I think Charles was looking at getting them made by the same guy that did the F3 kit valves. Not sure if he's still going ahead with it though.
Otherwise, maybe you could get someone who's handy with a TIG to build up some new alloy in that area, then re-shape it. :-k

Speak to Charles as last time we spoke he was thinking of getting a batch made.

as for more power, it'll depend on money. A lot of flowing cases and tuning barrels, followed by Lomas exhausts and a programable ignition, 35mm carbs and high maintainance costs will let you live with most stuff on the short straights. Decent suspension/wheels and tyres and you'll waste everything on the brakes and around the twisties. You'll need to improve the ground clearance as well.

holes....

I had a bit of a think about this and then a play with one of mine that is stretched. Not so bad the cable falls out, but enough to make it sloppy.

I found a bolt the right diameter and tightened into the cable hole and then broke out the Bosch hot air gun. I turned the temperature up to 550C and heated the whole lot up. The using a pair of needle nosed pliers I squeezed gently on the open bit where the cable goes in and I was able to close it back up. It took several goes of heating and squeezing, but I got the thing back into shape and it is good now.

I used the hot air gun because there is not anywhere near enough energy to melt it. Unlike a gas bow torch.....

It is a bit of buggering about and it seems to take forever to get hot initially, but once you have the first heat cycle into it then it goes ok.

You have to go gently otherwise it will crack and then it is useless. You can feel when the metal has cooled too much to bend easily, it quite quickly becomes very hard to squeeze. When you feel this stick it back into the heat.

send me your adress and ill see if i have a good spare. i think i have, i will send you one on a long term loan basis if need be/if i have one!!! btw, welcome to kr land. theres a lot you can do re more power. the kr responds well to fattening up the midrange/drive. no point in trying to get 70 hp at 12500rpm as the ignition wont play ball. mj has one of the fastest kr's i know of and it makes it power below 11000rpm. it delivers it in such a fluid fashion it has become notoriously fast among f400 racers, esp rgv'ers!! elf has a rocketship in the making aswell as scooble and a few other. besides the vj23 and 3xv tzr, the kr has the best engine in a 250 field. the rest of it is another story!!! it can be vastly improved though.

Thanks guys,

Sorry for the delay in replying ive been job hunting etc. ok having read everything that has been posted i almost feel info overload coming on. Yes i read his posting re f3 valves so will drop him a line, thank you very much.
So the only viable alternate to major(expensive) tuning is a chassis upgrade,as in wheels forks shocks etc, damn those japanese engineers, was hoping to go the big bore route as did fancy either a kr1s 400 or 500 cc
